Here in Texas, you can have as dark as you want on rear and back windows and 35% on the front. I used to have 5% on previous cars and got pulled over all the time. Now I think its around 35% all around from when I purchased this car.

Our windows can't have a darker tint then 70% visible light transmission (VLT). From factory these cars come with a high 80's VLT.

I think even AIR80 film would end up failing the test.

When the officer put the tint meter on my window, it read "36." I had my installer put 35% two years ago when I first bought my GS so it makes sense. It had no tint as it was a lease return.

I got a call back from my installer today and he said since I was his customer, he would charge $50 to remove the tint from all four windows and $150 to re-tint a lighter shade = $200 total for the re-do. He said 70% won't really show up but thats what is legal in NY...I'm hoping that a combination of keeping my rear-windshield at 35%, the white exterior with black tint will help it "appear" dark enough to still provide privacy and that nice contrasting look.

I was under the impression that the windows have zero tint from the factory on the 4GS as the glass has a UV reduction feature embedded into the glass itself? Does anyone know if the 4GS comes with a factory tint at all?

the top of the front windshield has a tint, like 4 inches of it, and I believe the rear windshield has a slight tint on it, not sure

Anyone with a 4GS with pics of their car with a light tint e.g. 50% or possibly 70%? Anyone with a starfire/ultra white with 50% or lighter would be most helpful as well.

Saw some on the dealer lot with lighter than 50%....in fact, no tint at all.

My opinion is tint isn't all that noticeable until you get below 50% transmission, I wouldn't notice the difference between 70% and untinted unless it was side-by-side.

I bring it up as a reference point, as you have book-ends of "typical" ~ 35% tint and untinted....

Thanks...I'm looking to remove my 35% tint and go lighter. I've been told by my tint guy that 70% won't look like its tinted but that is the legal limit. He did mention that 50% is fairly light but again, still not passable if you get pulled over in NY.

Was looking around the forum and saw a few old 3GS threads with pics of 50% tint and it looks good IMHO...

I admire the fact that you're going through all this trouble to abide by this dumb law. I honestly think you just got really unlucky (end of month quotas, officer trainee) with your recent run in with the cops. I'm definitely not removing my tint. Cuomo can suck it.

Thanks man...you may be right with me just having bad luck...with all the traffic and rules in NYC, we may just have to walk everywhere lol

alex, it sounds like you want a great tint with good clarity and not too dark

if you start talking about window tints its like talking bmw's on this forum nobody will agree or not fight about having a car look like darth vader

best two products that will look great are

Crystalline 40-50% tints

and Formual 1 pinnacle 50%
i have formula 1 on one of my cars its classy and does a good job with heat rejection and has great clarity
pinnacle formula 1 will be around 350
the crystalline 450 or 500

My tint guy told me he tinted some of Cumos security vehicles and it was 5% all around including front windows and a ridiculous large front windshield sun strip that covers the drivers face.

Apparently the tint laws don't apply to him or his people.
