Kept reading that door panels would have to be taken apart which is something that I did want to have done. This certified Llumar shop did not have to do that. Beautiful fold and tuck job.

Question on window tinting...do dealers do this or is it best to find a local shop? If so, what type of shop normally does this kind of work? Novice to window tinting (clearly).

There are shops that do only window tinting. You can google for a shop but a referral from a member here might be better. The installation is likely more important than the quality of the film itself.
One thing to keep in mind, do not get those $99 tint jobs, they can fade, de-laminate, unstick, and not do a good job at heat and UV rejection. I got my 15 GS at the dealer and the tint was already installed, and I instantly felt the heat coming through the front door glass and the tint was doing very little to reflect the heat. The 15 year old metallic Formula One tint on my Infiniti was 100x better.
If you're new to tint, don't go cheap. There's dyed tints, metallic and ceramic, and the costs increase in that order. There's also a new tech that's even more expensive. If you're interested in a quality job, go to a manufacturer's website and read about the different offerings... 3M, Llumar and Huper Optik are some of the major brands.
Happy shopping!

Go to a certified Llumar, 3M. or any manufacturer dealer and get the 100% lifetime warranty. Ceramic tint recommended. A number of new car dealers called the shop while I was there to get newly purchased cars tinted. You know the buyer paid an additional charge for sure.

I would think part of the upcharge for going through a dealer, even if they outsource the tint job to a third party, is that if there are any problems they are going to be the ones who have to deal with the customer, not the third party.

I got ceramics I believe. $300 for all the windows, $100 for windshield + strip. If you get the good stuff, you're going to pay up but totally worth it in the long run. The cheap stuff wrinkles, fades, gets a green tint, etc.

I went with 3M Obsidian. Great stuff so far. It was $250. If I wanted to go ceramic, the cost was $700, which I thought was unnecessary since I live somewhere with infrequent warm sunshine.

Sunny South Florida... tint is a must. The metallic Formula One on my last car was a great performer and after 13-14 years or so, started peeling. The shop re-tinted my peeling windows free of charge. I remember 16 years ago it was $350. The downside of the metallic was that it interfered with my radar detector, so when I got the GS, I went ceramic, really high end ceramic because I plan on keeping the GS 12+ years, just like my last car... $450 for the windows, rear, and sunroof, 30 and 15%. Formula One Stratos. Pricey, but I trust the shop, and the film.

Update: got the window tinting down this weekend. Ceramic tint (Geoshield) with lifetime warranty. Went to local that was highly recommended. $399 windows plus $200 for windshield = $599 total all in. Because I live in stupid CA got 50% on windows, 70% windshield. Would have gotten a little darker but ...didn't want to ever deal with getting pulled over. Did great job and looks good.

50 on the sides and 70% on the windshield, combined with a black interior, that tint will be plenty dark. I’m sure it looks cool and will perform even better.

Llumar Air 80 blocks heat and UV but is not in anyway dark. Lets 80% of light in.
