The system starts up in last used mode, unless you were in S or S+. That's probably due to EPA regs, because your gas mileage will be less in the sport modes...economy or performance, your choice.
Yeah, but I always drive in S+ except I forget to switch it occasionally.
Anyway, I still don't like the dimming, it adds some peripheral distraction when I am driving.
