And I already admitted that Lexus probably is the more reliable brand.

I have friends who have owned several BMWs that had zero problems, and I have a very close friend who has owned the same 13 year old BMW that they bought used about ten years ago. Yes, he has had to do some repairs to it, but nothing I would consider out of the norm for a 13 year old car. About every two years something needs to be fixed.
I understand what you're saying re: "internet facts", but when I go into Bimmerfest to research the 4 Series and see posts like this what am I supposed to think?

Alternatively, the worst comments I see about the GS are that is needs more HP and it has rattles. What would you think? BTW, I'm really glad you've had a good experience with your 550i. Better cars keep the competition stronger. However, from the comments I read you seem to be the exception, not the rule.

I've already said that you will find instances of problems. How do y'all think BMW has stayed in business if they build such a large number of bad cars?

It's a known fact that Lexus is more reliable than any other auto. Plain and simple. Whether or not Lexus makes the most exciting vehicles, well that's up for debate. But I think we can all agree that Lexus is at least trying to actually be competitive style and performance wise, now. My Audi, BMW and Lexus dealers are all in Albuquerque, that's the closest ones to me from Farmington. I chose Lexus over the other two because it was the cheapest to lease and the most expected reliable since I'm about 4 hours away from any of the 3. My GS has about 5 problems. All very small and annoying but nothing mechanical, yet. At 5,656 miles now.
