I dont see how GSF should only be an F Sport trim. Its going to have the 5.0 V8 and TVD found in the RCF. Oh boohoo just because it doesnt directly compete with E63 AMG and M5 (never mind probably going to be over $30k+ cheaper) that the whole name should change? So Lexus naming convention revolves around the Germans? Anyone thinking this directly competes with E63/M5 is dreaming. The engines in those cars will dust the GSF and the price reflects this. Unfortunate that the M5 looks like a $60k car.
sure lexus is free to set their own goal and make their own wishes if they want, no body is going to stop them. but i think it's a very cute thinking if their development of the f brand is not an attempt to compete against the germans. don't forget the isf was head to head against the m3 and the rcf is against the m4. and people (yes, that means majority) will compare the gsf against m5 and e63, as much as you might not like it to happen. i guess in your world most people are dreaming and you are the only one awake?
and you might actually wonder why most people and presses will compare the car against the m5 and e63. i bet it might have something to do with the badge. one can also take a wild guess what cars it would be compared to if it's called gs500.
keep in mind though, assume gsf will be in the 80s, it's right in line against the 550i, e550, and s6. hard to say where the edges are

I think the design is good looking being a current is f owner. Lexus is never going to go to the extremes that most of the Germans are doing or some of the American muscle cars now in regards to styling or performance. Look at all of the problems the high performance cars have with the reliability and Lexus has been pretty bullet proof in the reliability department. Most of us came to Lexus because we wanted the reliability of the car. If the performance is pushed too far in the engine everyone will complain about the reliability when they break down. I think the engine is given its maximum power to increase the reliability of the car. Some people want more power and some want more reliability and I think the F line is a great compromise of both.

to me the problem with gsf is they ran out of option and resources on more powerful setup. again if the 4gs chassis is so good, which i truly believe, that only means the car can handle more power. but that takes time and lexus is obviously not ready (they just released their first 200t turbo engine).

i actually think the setup in the isf back then and rcf are wonderful for what they are. great power, bullet proof reliability, and awesome sound. all while being very competitive in their segment (on paper more powerful than m3/m4 already).

Hell MB offers S63 and S65 AMGs - how many u think they sell???
These are the type of cars the make the brand special for regular buyers who one day hope to have an AMG Sclass.

The more i think about it - this was an embarassing effort by Lexus.
What other automaker shares the EXACT same powertrain with a lower model in their lineup and calls it a PERFORMANCE MODEL???
Does M3/4 and M5 share engines? NO
ATS and CTS? NO
C63 and E63? NO
Same for Audi
I want the F brand to succeed but this will just continue to lower Lexus' reputation in the enthusiast community.

Depends on how you look at it and everything is relative though. If you think of this as a GS500 F-Sport that compete against the E550 (402hp), 550i (445 hp), S6 (420 hp), CTS Vsport (420 hp), this 467 hp GS is the most powerful in it's class. They all indeed have the same price, except the Caddy.
I am just happy to have a GS that have the most powerful V8 that Lexus ever offer, by far. This thing is an awesome beater in the not too distant future.

No one needs 600hp is a 4000lb car. When youre above 450hp, 500hp its bragging rights. The MT article lays it out for you. The GS350 F-Sport already out does those with 150hp more, why the need for all this extra power? Drag or stop light racing? Bragging about your 'power level'? Driving dynamics is what theyre after. People said the same about the LFA's power being 'only' 552hp while cars like the Ferrari 599 were over 600hp. Yeah, itd be nice if it was 500+hp, but its not.

This new GS500 F-sport looks fantastic.
Exterior is nice......and rear tail lamps look like they're from a concept car. Nice job on the design elements.
The thing is though, with only 467 HP, don't expect to outrun your neighbour's Jaguar XFR on the dragstrip anytime soon. As such, it would have to compete in a slightly lower segment held by the Audi S6, MB E500/E550 AMG Sport and BMW 550i M Sport.........and probably the Jag XF with the N/A 5.0 V8 (or base config Supercharged V8 version)
