Is it possible to add factory cruise control after getting the car? Or are aftermarket systems the only way?
Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket systems?

I'm leaning more towards no, it isn't possible. Most manufacturers do not allow their dealers to add such major features on their cars. Dealers also probably wouldn't want to take the responsibility for installing it either. I think its one of those features that you just have to order with your car when you get it.
I've never heard of aftermarket adaptive cruise control. I wouldn't trust them.

Anything is possible. Would it make sense? No. My guess is retrofitting this would cost $10k+

I could care less if my cars even have a cruise control. I never use cruise control...because when using cruise control I don't feel like I am 'in control'.

I use cruise control on long highway trips. I have adaptive cruise in the Jeep. My wife uses it ALL the time, she loves letting it work the throttle and brakes. Once the novelty wore off for me, I like it on trips where the highways aren't real crowded, where all you have to do is just let it slow you down and move over a lane, etc. But, on crowded highways say around DC it bugs me because it keeps too big a distance between me and the car ahead even on the closest setting, people are always merging into that gap causing it to screech at the top of its lungs and slam on its own brakes, and its too lazy when speeding back up to keep people behind you from getting testy.
What I like it the best for is actually slow traffic, where speeds get down to say 5-10, back to 30-35, 50, back to 5-10. I just set it at my preferred speed and let the car do everything but steer.
In short when I first got the Jeep, I thought I'd have to have that feature on every car I ever bought from then on but now that I've gotten used to it, I could take or leave it.

Cruise control is very important for me, i use it all the time. And I find my mpg is way better on cruise control. When I hit the highway I get up to about 72 mph and put it on cruise control, it helps me not to speed lol. Everytime you tap the cruise control stick down it decreases by 1 mph and increases by 1 mph when you tap up, so when I need to adjust while im driving I dont even use the brakes sometimes, its become second nature.

I don't think it would be reasonable to add the feature. You should have just saved your $$ for a car with it or searched harder. My wife's Jeep has the feature too. It's nice. But I find myself chatting and end up following some fool going way slower than I intended without realizing for a while.
