I've watched just about every video you posted on your wife's GS. Very helpful for me with tune up and brakes.

Just my humble opinion but since I plan to keep my GS AWD for 200k miles I'm getting insurance by doing 60k transmission and differential fluid changes, 75k coolant flushes, 30k brake fluid, and 5k mile oil changes. Fluids are cheap. Having your transmission start to slip or wearing out your diff is not worth it to me.

Completely agree. I'm in on Tuesday for a brake flush and oil change. I'm going to check on transmission and diff changes too. I'm at around 68k, so next oil change, I'll look into a coolant flush.

Currently at 172,000 miles and still have not changed it and have no issues. The experiment continues…

I bought in 2015 with 30K on it.

So how far do think before you get a result of the experiment?

I'd say at 172,000 miles he already has a the result.

Nope. Not unless he has decided that its his cars lifetime end. Seems he is still using it currently. So lets see what happens as it still gets used? That's why I asked how far? He did in fact say - "The experiment continues…"

Every day the trans continues to be the beast that it is, I am getting “a” result that I want. But in order to get “the” result that I want this trans would never falter as I do not plan to sell this car.

I bought this car because a colleague had a 2001 GS with 397K miles and was still using the car as a commuter so any trans problem is a fail in this experiment.

Now that is a real lifetime expectation! I wish you the best that it continues without fail for many many more miles and years.

Unhappy Transmission Fluid Change

Hello! I have a 2015 Lexus GS350 and I took it to the dealer to flush the transmission fluid. As I have seen the Car Care Nut recommend every 60k or 6 years. The service advisor said they do not change it, it lasts the lifetime of the car, and only if there is an issue with the transmission then they could change it. Should I force them to change it anyway? I have 26k miles but the car is 7 years old. Help please!

Your Lexus service advisor advised you with absolutely 100% correct information.

You might get (force) someone to do it but you are wasting your time and money and it is not recommended nor is it beneficial to extend the life of your transmission. It would be about as useful and beneficial for you to flush and replace your windshield washer fluid.

Pardon my ignorance as I am not a mechanic. However, I do know that there are intervals on other cars that you flush your transmission fluid every such and such miles years. What is the difference, technically speaking on the GS350 that does not require this?

Lots of differing opinions on this topic. Tons of factors as well: type of driving you do, driving habits, type of climate, how long you plan to keep the car, any existing issues shifting, etc.

Here's a thread with great insight, personal experiences and owners that have done it/avoided changing the transmission fluid: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...ilter-too.html

The Toyota/Lexus engineers have done extensive tests, I'm sure under all sorts of conditions and over untold numbers of miles, and determined the transmission fluid never needs to be flushed, changed/replaced. It truly is designed to last the lifetime of the car. What is the lifetime of the car? Many owners have put well over 200k miles on their car and followed the recommendation to never touch the transmission and their transmission continues to work flawlessly just like it did when the car was new. Chances are you will not even own the car when it has ¼ million miles on the odometer!

Change the ATF if you want, but keep in mind you are going totally against the car maker's recommendation if that means anything at all to you. You bought a Lexus, not a Chrysler, Chevrolet or KIA.
