Sealed is a relative term. It is not sealed like an electric meter or a bonded warehouse. The are only sealed by gentlemen's agreement among manufacturers.
It is sealed with a promise that you will never have to deal with it. We call them warranties.
Once you own the thing, you can do with it as you please though the promise may be null and void afterwards.

So I found out my '13 F Sport with 80K has never had fluid or filter maintenance. The transmission has no issues and I think I'd realize if it did. Never noticed any weird behavior (car does downshift aggressively on deceleration in S+ but I know that's normal and I like it). I'm scheduled to get the transmission and differential serviced in a couple weeks but am having second thoughts.
On a 10 year old car is it better just to leave it alone? I've read about debris dislodging and causing problems within the unit on older unmaintained cars. But I've also read that this is less likely if your transmission is operating well as it is.
I drive about 10-12K miles/year and I drive mostly conservatively, but I also floor it to red line fairly often because it's so damned fun in this underrated car.
Thanks

[QUOTE=PGA71;11379718]I understand the cold feet. My 2013 Lux has close to 142K miles on the clock and I have not serviced it either and still runs like day 1.
There are mixed views on this forum and ultimately you will have to do what you are comfortable with.[/QUOTE
Good to know I’m not the only one. Hard to pay $500 for a service I’m not 100% sure will be beneficial.

I'm almost at 30K.
I've never really kept my cars for more than 3 years before but that will probably change with this one and the way the car market is at right now. I think my GS will stick around for a while.

Yup I'm going to keep mine for a long time which I guess is an argument for getting the service done. I guess the worst-case scenario has me a little wigged out I suppose the odds of serious problems after the service are low.

You can feel the Tran's shift smoother and more positive. There's nothing bad about getting new fresh fluid in, and debris, salt, sand, dirt, wear metals, and other internal worn trans materials out. Just don't do a flush!!! My GS is a 13, with 47k. I have done it 3 times, pan drop and filter 1st time. I wanted to get the majority replenished to new fresh fluid. Now I just take it Toyota to have the drain and fill with Full synthetic Valvoline Trans fluid.
Just a few years ago with the same trans and engine Lexus said to change it. The Trans manufacture says change it. In other countries on the GS Lexus says change it. Nowadays Lexus says don't change it. The other option is to drive it till it goes bad. Hopefully one wont be the owner when that happens.
What's scares me would be if my Transmission starting messing up.![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

OK so far nobody either here or on Reddit voting for not servicing the transmission. I just gotta check with the garage make sure they use the right method and fluid as my Lexus dealer refused to perform the service. I know this place would not intentionally screw me, I hope they don't screw me inadvertently LOL.
