Sounds like its a way to control your driving..
I wouldn't do it...
I'm doing it because I drive less than 200 miles a month. The majority of the 90 days will be idle. My partner just happens to drive safely haha.

You drive less than 2,400 miles a year?

I have USAA insurance and they offer it too, no way I agree to this unless my car was going to sit in my garage for 90 days.

Hmmm, maybe I underestimated. I did 150 miles in January lol. I have owned my car for a year and driven 4000 miles on it. Some months vary, depends on when I am in town and how many remote weeks I will have. My travel weeks are going to ramp up for this year though so who knows how often I'll be able to drive :/

Part of me regrets getting this car because when I was in my 2008 Civic, every rental car was an upgrade. Now I can't wait to get home and get in my car.

This is a buncha malarkey.

You know, funny and a bit shocking, I read about this in an article roughly 7 years ago when i was in college, and it is actually here today, unbelievable. Contrary to some beliefs, this technology has not been implemented for the NSA to send hunter killer robots to get you, rather it is constructed to learn which restaurants and stores you go to and what kind of stuff are you into. To then market products to you in under various platforms such as TV, internet, smart phone pop ups while gaming, and ads on youtube videos. I'm not saying that is 100% true because i cant confirm it, but now im leaning towards that it is true.

The upside is you only have it for 3 months. So just go to work and go home for the next 80 days lol

So what exactly are they looking for ? Driving faster than the posted speed limit and making abrupt maneuvers ? How can they distinguish an unsafe move from a life saving one ? Im sure they know that the people who opt into this will drive like a saints for 3 months and then go all out afterwards so they are not going to know how you actually drive. I don't think they care either quite frankly.

I stamp this as a big pile of you know what.

It doesn't track where I go. There are no GPS capabilities. It tracks number of miles driven, sudden accelerations, hard brakes, and number of times you drive between midnight to 4 am. Doesn't track if I suddenly swerve or do some fast cornering (roundabouts are fun).

If you have to hard brake to avoid an accident, then you have to do it. Some situations you can't avoid.

Because insurance is heavily regulated, insurance companies have to submit their formula to the state government for approval. We found this out because American Family's formula is heavily flawed. Liberty Mutual is pretty transparent though.

Very interesting, so when your 3 months is over do they remove the device ? And how is the data transmitted, via wi-fi ?

Personally, I prefer to use a dash cam to save on insurance.

No insurance hikes when tickets just don't... stick.

I install it and I remove it. When my 3 months is over they send me a box to ship it back. Data is transmitted via cellular network so I get fairly up to date notices on where my discount is at.

It'll be great when BlueCross gives me a fitbit to monitor whether I exercise enough or not.
