If a front license plate is required and must be mounted I personally do not care for front plates to be mounted anywhere other than where they are designed to be mounted. They immediately draw my attention, and in a bad way. They might as well mount it on a piece of rotten wood beside the headlight using duct tape and sticking out from the side of the car.

I know this is boring, but I bought the stock front license plate mounting kit from the dealer, and put it onto the bumper. California front plate mandates it. If I have to move somewhere else, I'll continue to put the front plate on, even if the state does not mandate it. If I can't get the front plate from the DMV then I'll probably put on something decorative (but not tacky) instead.

I just don't see the aesthetic issue being so great that I would worry about mounting and dismounting the plate..

Don't do it if you think you can get away without it. Looks like crap. Pissed the prior owner of my GS had one and there's a few marks on my front bumper I had to touch up from the bracket. Buy a Honda if you want a front license plate bracket. Don't ruin the good looks of a GS.

This is one of the more ridiculous things I've ever heard LOL. You won't find someone pickier about their cars than me...but...its a car. By law, it has to have a license plate. Somehow nice cars are "too nice" to put the legally required plate on them? And if we want to or feel we need to comply with the law we should buy a cheaper car? This is completely nonsensical.

If you are concerned with getting tickets...put the plate on. Do you want to be constantly worried about tickets? That's a lot of stress. If you don't want to look at the plate, then don't put it on...but don't complain when you get tickets. Don't complain about cops doing their jobs and enforcing the law. Pretty simple.

Once you install the plate and get used to it, it won't bother you. Every car I've ever owned has had a front license plate...and I think cars look strange without them at the point...

I ended up just putting the stock front bracket on in the middle of the bumber (Lexus has small little grooves in the bumber indicating where to screw it in). I've always had a front plate so it's not the end of the world but I agree with the last poster, no reason to not have the plate on if it's going to cause stress and worry about tickets. Everyone in Chicago has a front plate and in the long run I'm confident I'd receive a ticket in the near future without it.

One plus about putting the plate right smack in the middle is WHEN someone decides to back in to my car in the near future when I'm randomly parallel parked, I'm at least somewhat protected now.

You could try those tow hook license plate mounts. There's no drilling so once you're out of the hot ticket territory, you could toss everything in the trunk.

I have a tow hook license plate, I don't want to get pulled over and I don't like the low plates as I feel I may scrape. The tow hook is the best in my opinion as it keeps both parties happy the troopers and me.

The only reason they want your front license plate is to ticket you with red light cams...

I'd rather get a fix-it ticket, put the plate on for a few seconds, get it signed off, then remove the plate.

The ONLY ticket I ever received for no front plate in Cali was when I paralleled parked in San Francisco with a handicap placard (had surgery on both legs.. hard to walk for a while) in a handicap parking spot.

Had I not parked in a handicap spot (legally!), I guarantee I wouldn't have gotten a ticket there either...

I'd say run without it until they tell you to put it on there..

Then if it comes to it, use the stock mount with double sided tape so you dont put permanent holes in your bumper!
