American cars comparable to 4GS?

To answer the OP's question, I would say Cadillac comes the closest from any American company.. but it's still no where near as refined as the big luxury players (Lexus, MB, Audi). American companies still have a LONG way to go in interior build quality, engine reliability, etc.

Chevrolet SS, CTS-V, new ATS-V. All nice, though the CTS-V and the SS have the long-supported LSX engine. The SS is Australian and is limited in its sale numbers, so it's going to hold its value extremely well. Same for the CTS-V If you don't believe me on that, look at what a used G8 GT goes for. They're all faster than the GS, too.

CTS Vsport and CTS V surpass the GS in many aspects such as powertrain, weight, suspension engineering etc.
Fit and Finish is very good on the Caddy top models.
Design is subjective.
Reliability is def Lexus.

I went to look at an ATS and CTS (non V models) to replace my current GS (non F model)... they were both terrible on the inside compared to the Lexus. The design looked and felt cheap, from door panels to center console to the instrument cluster. It all looked like it belonged in a $20k vehicle. The little 2015 Acura ILX I sat was more comfortable than both of those cars (and I'm 6'2!). I wouldn't drive one even with them having more power, I'd rather try my luck with finding a GS-F or go German and pick up a C63. Even with Caddy/MBZ, reliability becomes an issue and I'd still end up with another Lexus in the end.
Comparing apples to apples, the non-performance models, Cadillac has nothing to offer that is nearly as nice as the GS. In my opinion
The comparison of performance models is yet to be seen as the new ATS-V and GS-F have not hit showrooms. They will also be competing with the C63 and M3 as well. I hear the C63 is a beautiful car... The CTS-V is priced to compete with the LS, E class, and 5 series... not really a GS competitor to me.

I guess I'll have to look up the values of the G8 because that surprises me. I can see the LS3 version holding up moderately well, but not the six cylinder or even the GT.

The LS3 engine and six speed auto are the main reasons I did not buy an SS when I bought my Audi. As they have done many times, GM brought in a neat car with an outdated powertrain. With the new LT1 and eight speed there is a very good chance I would have bought one.

I traded in a 2008 G8 GT for my Lexus. They had a buyer for my car before I could finish the deal on the Lexus! Somebody literally left the golf course (unless he dresses like that for some other reason) to come see my car. I traded it in for nearly what I paid for it after owning it 3.5 years.
