I'm certainly not going to go to any extremes in order to get 2 more mpg, or even 5 mpg more. Fretting over gas mileage in a $50K+ luxury sport sedan just doesn't compute. I'll leave that for the Nissan Leaf and Toyota Prius folks to discuss. Is money that tight?
In 10,000 miles of driving per year the difference between getting 16.3 mpg versus 18.4 mpg is 70 gallons. At a cost of $4/Gallon you're talking about $280 or $23 per month. Your cost of owning and operating a Lexus GS 350 is probably around $0.77 per mile. That means that driving just one (1) additional mile per day will cost you about the same amount of money as you've saved with better your fuel mileage.

^^ This right here. The EPA adjusted numbers are on the window. You want CT numbers, you get a CT or a GS450h.
Of course, the 450h is more expensive last time I checked, but it's hard to argue with 29/34 estimated, more power, and quicker acceleration. Heck, they even make an F Sport version.
After nearly 2 years in my 2013, I do think the tank is on the small side. I came from an '04 G35 sedan with a ~20 gallon tank (17 gallons before zero on the gauge) and it'd get 300 miles per tank during mixed driving, and once I got 420 miles on fumes at 100% highway driving.
Now in this car, I'm filling up from zero on the gauge, 15 gallons on average, 300 mile range. It's like I have the exact same range as my old car and a smaller tank. Not complaining because I did homework before I threw money down, but a slightly larger tank and +50 hp would take this car from great to excellent in my humble opinion. I'm about to take a big road trip and put plenty of miles on it soon and it'll be stretches of 100% highway and I'm eager to see what she'll do then.

I took a 600+ mile round trip drive last weekend and managed a tad over 24MPG mostly cruising at 80MPH witht the occasional traffic and passing here and there. Not too bad for such a heavy vehicle. Much more comfortable then my old Camry. LOL

That G35 though, with 280hp, nice torque, and a 5 speed auto, it never EVER budged from 5th gear. 10 percent grade uphill? Same rpms, same speed, no need to shift bro.
I kinda wish my GS had that same speed holding ability, it always loses a few mph uphill in 6th gear. Maybe I'll try putting it in manual mode and leave it in 5th.

I just bought it the 2013 GS 350 Fsport. Love it..but MPG sucks...didn't know about this at all.
i was hoping i get 19-20mpg combine city /HWY....but i am getting 15.3mpg avg...
not sure how other people are able to achieve beyond that..

Welcome to the club! But gas is cheap nowadays and will likely stay cheap for a number of years with everything that's happened recently.
I, like most, expected more, but the car is a very good driver so I've forgiven it. It is strange to get similar commuting mileage as my Titan, but the GS does do better than the sticker when on roadtrips and allowed to cruise on the highway.

What progress is it when a more modern 6 cyl with DI and more gears gets worse fuel economy then a much older V8 with no DI and a 5 speed auto making the same general power? The 4th Gen GS uses a lighter weight oil to aid in fuel economy too. Our neighbors RLX that weighs around the same as the GS with 310hp and a 6 speed auto avg's low to mid 20's mixed, said he has got over 30mpg on the highway several times, the difference between fwd and rwd is not that great when it comes to fuel economy.
Are your tires inflated properly, they lose tire pressure in colder temps? Over inflating them a little helps fuel economy, are you carrying extra weight in the car, is your air filter clean, you may need a oil change or try adding some fuel treatment/injector cleaner like Redline. If it was not for so many getting the same fuel economy I would think you had a pretty big issue for the kind of fuel economy you are getting from just a 300hp V6.
I guess getting better fuel economy going from a older V8 to a more modern DI V6 with 6 speeds that uses lighter weight oil should not be expected if I get a 4th Gen.

I got my 2015 GS35 FSport in December 2015. The car was built in July 15 and when I first got the sedan I was averaging 20mpg but after 2.5K miles it moved up to 23mpg. When I drove from LA to San Diego it averaged 25MPG and I was happy but it seems my car is getting better mileage after it ran over 2K miles. Even in EVO mode still less mileage as my 14 MBZ E350 Sport averaging 29 MPG but the compromise is worth it for now.

I have a '15 GS premium and I'm averaging in the high 23's low 24's per gallon in mixed highway/local driving using normal mode. I'm getting around 350-360 miles per tank. My commute is 25 miles each way which is mostly highway. Normal speeds early in the morning (75 mph on the highway) as I leave for the office at 6:00 am but slower and sometimes very slow heavy traffic in the evenings.
