I never thought to ask about tire brands, I'll call tomorrow and ask

Myself and many others would disagree with your statement. My MXM4's and my friends that run them, love them.

Lead Lap
Finally got enough Free time to go drive both the Non F and F Sport
both cars, were equipped exactly the same
Blind spot
Intuitive park assist
NAV
Cold weather
drove the Non F Sport first
played with the Eco to Sport mode, I honestly didn't feel much difference,
car drove exactly like I thought a $56000 Lexus would, smooth, but not soft, comfortable seats
Drove the F sport and the real difference inside where the seats, they really are much better than the non F sport, the power side bolsters and extendable thigh supports are nice
The one thing I didn't like as much is how harsh the ride was, I was shocked, I've owned a 3 series with M sport, an S4 with 19's and they weren't as hard a ride, maybe hitting 40, I'm getting old but I almost don't know if I'll enjoy the ride especially on the crappy NY roads

The roads here in NY are awful generally speaking but if a GS with pure 'comfort' is in mind, you could always drop down to 17s that sit on a touring tire (17s might look a little small on the GS).
I also test drove f-sport, luxury and premium models. Felt the F-sport was stiff for a Lexus (since I was coming from an '01 GS430), felt the luxury was a bit overpriced (also hated the lux wheel design). I ended up with the premium...Felt it was the best overall value.

My 14 GS F Sport doesn't have Michelin tires. It came with Bridgestone Potenza Summer tires. They are stiff, loud and wear fast. While I appreciate the performance, the road noise is excessive. Going over highways that have patches (cracks in the highway patched with tar) is annoying. It's bumpy and noisy. Most people that ride in my car comment that it's bumpy and loud for a Lexus. But I love it, it's fun. Wish it had a lot more torque, though. And don't get me started on paint quality and the small gas tank

I had performance tires on my TL, but got the MXM4 when the performance tires needed to be replaced. They were recommended by the dealer, and I was very disappointed in them. The car rode smoother, but really suffered in cornering. I had to start being careful on how I drove it after that.

Theres a difference between the Pilot MXM4 and the Primacy MXM4, which is what the GS comes with. I would imagine the Acuras mentioned above had the Pilot MXM4, the Primacy MXM4 is a very nice riding tire, I had them on my GS.
