Which cabin air filter to purchase?
#16
Well, it looks like my problem is still not solved.
I ordered 5 of the Denso 453-1019 cabin air filters and they arrived today.
They do not fit.
They are much smaller than what is in my vehicle right now.
I was already mad that Amazon, Autozone, Advanced Auto steered me wrong and got me to order the Fram filter that didn't work, but now I'm extra mad that Denso tells me to use this Denso air filter and they are wrong as well.
Looks like I'm back to the drawing board.
I think that I'm going to try the: TYC 800179C Replacement Cabin Air Filter for Lexus
There is only 1 review on Amazon.com but they specifically state that it works for their 2013 GS.
It should work for my 2014.
Ugh.

Denso air filter: 7 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 8 1/2
Air filter in car: 8 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 8
Here is a picture of the Denso filter on top of the correct filter (I lined up the bottom corners):
Why would multiple auto parts stores and the manufacturer itself state that this filter would work? I don't think that any of them actually tested this part.

I wonder if any Toyota vehicles might use the same filter size that fits the Lexus GS 350...

You can see the measurements I have above as to how close they are.
If the Denso one was exactly the same dimensions if you turned it 90 degrees it still wouldn't work.
The filter holder itself has plastic channels in it so the pleats have to run north to south.
If you were to try and install the Denso filter sideways not only would it not dimensionally fit, but also it would have a giant bulge in the middle due to the plastic channels digging into it.
Luckily the Denso filter fits in my wife's Sienna.
I ended up keeping the 5 I ordered so I can use them on her vehicle in the future.
Last night I ordered 2 more filters from Amazon for my GS.
I ordered the Lexus 87139-30100 for $42 and the TYC 800179C for $15.
I'll see how they do and post back.
Of course I'm hoping that the $15 filter fits and is basically the same so that in the future I don't have to buy the Lexus one.

Product Dimensions 9.2 x 9.1 x 1.6 inches
Manufacturer Part Number 8713930100
.
The Amazon website that has the states the filter's size as:
Product Dimensions 9.6 x 9.2 x 1.5 inches
Manufacturer Part Number 800179C
OEM Part Number 87139-30100
.
However, you said the filter in car measures: 8 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 8. So, it looks like neither filter will fit...

The OEM filter is priced ridiculous.

I am pleased to announce that both the Lexus 87139-30100 and the TYC 800179C cabin air filters fit the 4GS
The Lexus filter must be the OEM but the TYC looks and fits almost identically.
I think the TYC was probably half a mm larger in length and width so it has a slightly tighter fit and the filter itself looks a little different in color.
They are both charcoal filters and have the same number of pleats.
After I use both of these filters I've bought I will be ordering the TYC from now on.

ATP and TYC cabin filter comparison
Ordered the ATP HA-2 cabin filter before finding this thread. So, i ordered the TYC 800179C too. Here are pictures of both of them side by side. They appear to be the same size. They both came sealed in plastic bags inside of boxes. Ordered the ATP on amazon with prime shipping for $14.48. Ordered the TYC on ebay for $13.98. They both got to my house quickly. The TYC was from a local seller. The ATP has 23 pleats and the TYC has 34 pleats. They're both carbon activated. The ATP has 3 strips of plastic running across the pleats on one side to help stabilize the pleats; the TYC does not. The TYC has strips of polyester fiber at the top and bottom; the ATP does not. The TYC pleats are made from thinner sheets of paper. Also, they are both made in Tawain.
