Hardwire Valentine V1 radar

Are you finding much use for the V1 in SoCal? I had one long ago but gave it to a cousin that had moved to the east coast. I'm debating on a new V1 but 99% of my driving is on 57 and 5 between Diamond Bar and Irvine.

Just now I was speeding in the city street going 50 in a 40 zone and there was a cop coming towards me. I should've leave it in gear and let the car slow down on its own but I downshifted right next to him by accident and the engine went BWAAAAHHHH.. and I'm like.. oh shyttt!! He probably went WTF is that guy doing?! Good thing he didn't turn around, I was watching my mirrors like a hawk!

Thanks man
Just wish there was something more effective.
Around Pembroke Pines these dudes are suffocating us man, every damn day...out there with radar guns...at what point is this sh#t harrasment man
At what point does the speeding tickets stop being about safety? Because to me it feels as if they have a hand in your pocket, and it doesnt feel good at all.
You can do a bit of research and see how many places around the country are using tickets as a means of "extra income", some towns its the #1 source of income, its disgusting TBH.
Lol, as always very informative BC, thanks

At first I was wowed but it seems that this vette couldnt be lasered because it has no angles to bounce back to the gun. My suspicions were confirmed on a message board for cops i found in which they came to the same conclusion.
Oh the stories in there about the pleasure of writing tickets to guys with radar detectors...one guy went as far as to bring the radar gun detector manual to court! Bet the judge was amused.
another even said he loves dealing specifically with valentine-1 users
Sigh...like I said....cops......

A radar signal is like a beam of light from a flashlight. When police 'shine' their radar on your car it is 99% of the time too late for your radar detector to prevent you from it getting a good reading. Radar detectors look for radar beams in hope of finding them before they can return a strong enough reflection to detect your speed. However, the radar that police use today is very sophisticated - being able to not send out the radar's microwave signal until your vehicle is only close enough for them to detect your speed (whether he is on-the-move or stopped).
Today's radar also uses a stronger microwave pulse to reach longer distances too. Gone are the days that the radar sends out a constant signal to be detected by a motorist's radar detector when the radar's signal is still too weak to detect your speed. You might get very lucky and have your radar detector catch a signal directed at another car before your car is detected, but don't count on that luck happening very often. Once your radar detector lets you know that it has detected a radar signal you have about a nanosecond to react. Good luck with that!

Also, in your 2nd paragraph, you're describing POP K/Ka radar bands which do use a pulse based band. Radar detectors still pick these up effectively because again radar is NOT direct vs Light. However, since they are NOT always on, it is harder to detect.
Radar guns are still the main stay for most police departments. Radar detectors are extremely effective because radar tends to scatter, and NOT all of the microwave transmission is absorbed by the target vehicle. Your radar detector works by picking up the actual radar transmissions EVEN if they are NOT aiming at you.
TLDR: Radar detectors absolutely work. Pop-based radar bands are still rarely used, but detectable. Laser detectors work, but don't help at all. You can't travel at Warp Speed!
