I noticed the hose coming of the resvoir cap is also not connected to anything. At least they could have ran it down to the bottom of the car and not made it drain over my radiator. O well. I also noticed some dried up coolant on the end. I was getting low.
Bumping this because it's been more than six months since I installed the replacement cap and hose (16405-31140).
I have no more pink stuff around the overflow cap, so it definitely works.
Also the new hose is shaped w purposeful angles, clearly the result of specific design and manufacturing choices, and it looks better than the old.
I have had this problem and read this thread a long time ago when I bought my car. I found that if you leave it alone, whatever coolant bubbles out around the cap will dry and seal it. I used to occasionally open the cap and get rid of the dry, crusty coolant but it kept coming back. I finally decided to quit cleaning it up and it eventually seals up and doesn't seem to leak anymore.
Anyway, this thread popped up again and I finally decided to replace the cap with the part you listed, so I've got one on order. Interestingly, I had my GS in to the dealer to replace the squeaky steering wheel spiral cable in the last month and they checked everything over. It appears they topped off the coolant reservoir b/c it was getting a little low and they said nothing about the leaking, crusty cap.
