First 100 miles trip with the GS
Today I took her out from San Diego to Santa Monica, first day out so to speak, bonding time. Really happy with it.
On the con side:
- Torque that only comes in after 4.5k rpm so on the freeway I need to drop 4 cogs or more to get it moving. The 328i and the 535i pull like a train in 7th or 8th gear. Lexus needs turbos.
- The 8-speed is lazy, even in sport mode. The Bimmer changes instantly, like a Ferrari, there's no discernible delay between pulling the flap and the gear change. Lexus takes half a sec, at least.
On the pro side: very solid, quiet, refined, smooth, comfortable, luxurious, engine sounds good, good gas pedal feel, properly sized interior. All this for $439 / mo inc tax, $0 down. You cannot beat that.

I agree. The 6-speed feels like it knows what it's doing whereas the 8-speed feels like it is uncertain at times and needs a bit more time to figure out what it wants to do. The 8-speed definitely tends to hunt at times compared to the 6-speed.

S+ is a little better but yes 8 gear is nothing greater than the old 6. The gas mileage is not even better. Not sure what the gain is for this change. I personally prefer the old 6 too.

A payment amount without context (otd price/trade/down payment) isn't really a fair comparison, I'm pretty sure you're not paying $27,600 for your '14 F Sport.

I like the car but most probably I'll swap it next year for a '13 750i or a '13 LS.
