picking up 2013 tonight with 6K left on manufactory's warranty - what to look for?!
HI All, as the tittle says i'll be picking up a new to me 2013 GS 350 awd luxury in the next day or so. It has about 6k left on the bumper to bumper warranty. it's NOT from a lexus dealer but after searching for 2 months the price on this was great AND knowing that it still had some warranty left on it - it seems like a good deal to me. It's also loaded with night vision, adaptive cruise control, etc.
Anything i should look out for that i can get fixed within the next couple of months?
I currently have an ES 350 and it's been incredibly solid...in 3 years it hasn't seen the inside of a dealership!
Thanks

+1 TSB's
I'd check all the interior/trunk plastic pieces/panels and under the seats. If anything seems loose, irregular or cracked, get those looked at also. Look at the windshield for any defects, check the rear window shade for any irregularity.

Another vote for TSB's. I picked up a 2013 Luxury last week and none were needed but looking at the Lexus owner site yesterday a passsenger seat sensor TSB showed up needing to be done. Otherwise just the normal stuff - press all the switches, adjust everything, look for leaks, etc...

Agree with everyone who mentioned the TSBs since its not a Lexus Dealership you are purchasing from. Typically the Lexus dealership will take care of the TSBs since they want to try to sell you a "clean" car. Here are recommendations i've posted from a similar question asked on a different thread:
-Brakes and Rotors. Make sure there is plenty of life left on the brakes and not excessively rusted/warped rotors. F-Sport brakes and rotors are particularly pricey.
-Wheels: Ensure the car has no vibrations at highway speeds. Sometimes some of the wheels may be slightly out of round. Ask to take a look at the underside of the car if necessary while the wheels are spinning on a lift and look for any hops/jumps. Most dealerships will not honor many wear and tear items like wheels/tires unless you buy a separate wheel/tire pkg warranty.
-Tires: Ensure there is decent tread left on the tires. The AWDs eat through the tires a bit more. IMO: There should be at least 50-60% tread left on the tires.
-Seats: Ensure there isn't any strange leather peeling or excessive wear on the seats, especially the driver's seat. This happened to me and the day I took delivery, I saw the driver seat have some peeling leather and the Lexus dealership i purchased from agreed to fix it.
It is comforting to know that the full warranty is still active. Mine expires in April of 2016 as it was an early build. The carfax will show exactly the date/mileage it expires so you have a good idea as to how much time is left. Remember, the original warranty is only 4yrs/50k miles, whichever happens first. Many early build 2013's were sold and registered by the first owner in the early - middle of 2012 which would make the full warranty good only until early - middle 2016.
Good luck and you can't go wrong with a Lux pkg 2013 GS!

HI All, thank you very much for your knowledge!
I did insist on a lexus inspection, which from what i understand is essentially a safety with a few more things added on - so i think tire and brakes 'should' be ok - but i will check.
Does anyone know if i could ask a dealership to inspect the car for TSB's? i can't imagine a dealership doing this - but you never know...i would imagine i would have to pay at least an hour of labour and then if they find anything they could possibly assign the labour to it...even if they charged me the labour i would be ok with it...

I wouldn't suggest to print out EVERYTHING because there are ALOT of TSBs, but read through them and print out the ones that you think may have somewhat of an impact on the car. Your car is still fairly new so the problems noted on many of the TSBs may not have shown up yet.
