Seems like the only thing going for it it's value because the direct competitor is faster and more efficient.

If the GS 200t falls short in ultimate performance or handling, it stands strong on price. A BMW 5 Series built to the equivalent of our $58,565 GS would cost nearly $70,000. Simply put, the GS gives you more stuff for the money. Our tester adds striking Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 paint ($595), navigation ($1,730), the $635 Safety System+ (forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and lane departure warning with steering assist), and a 15-speaker, 835-watt Mark Levinson surround stereo ($1,380) to the F Sport's $54,225 starting price. But again, the comparison to GS 350 looks bad. You'll save all of $830 by passing on the V6, and that's not enough to warrant the sacrifice in power.

Lexus makes Lexus cars. If Lexus made a car that has the same specs as the BMW 528 that would satisfy the critics, that car would be the BMW 528. But since Lexus isn't in the business of making BMW cars, it made a car with different specs and a different price point than the BMW 528. The GS200T is aimed at a different buyer with a different budget. It is not a failure.

The GS 200t is aimed at the ES buyer who wants a luxurious interior, more space, and a sportier appearing RWD car, but who doesn't need the HP of the GS350. The price reflects those attributes. As such, this car is not a failure to the buyer who is looking for a car with those traits and corresponding price point.
More space (huh?)
From what I'm seeing, the price is very close to the GS350. I see no reason to pick the 200t over the 350, unless we start getting taxed on ci's, like Europe.

There's no reason for you to pick the 200t based on your requirements. It doesn't mean it's the wrong pick for everyone. I should have added that the other possible audience of the 200t is the IS buyer who is indifferent to HP and just wants a larger RWD sedan with more luxurious features than the IS offers. BTW pricing the GS 200t close to the gs350 may be a tactic by Lexus to force some buyers to choose the higher priced 350 based on the logic that you have used.

That's the problem with the GS200T. Why would I pay for less horsepower when I can get the GS350 about the same price? The engine is a bonus even if you don't want that speed. I don't think the GS200T will sell well and Lexus will probably end up killing the GS200T after this year. If they had priced it cheaper, I'm sure it will sell well but only time will tell.

According to http://www.lexus.com/build-your-lexu...year/2016/trim
the GS200t base price is $45000. The GS350 RWD base price is $50000. So there is a $5000 delta between the two. It's not insignificant. It's not only $830 as some have claimed.

While there is significant difference in base models, the price of a RWD 350 F Sport is $54,115 and a RWD 200t F Sport is $53,285, so comparing like models, the price difference is indeed $830. The 200t lowers the price of entry to a GS though, as you've correctly noted.

I like the 200t and think it'll be fine, I just think it would sell better with more of a difference between it and the 350.
