1 month/1400 miles into ownership, and I already have a few noticeable chips in my front windshield. Toyota, why such a wimpy windshield? Having owned a '10 Tundra in the past, had it for 4 years, never any issues with the glass.

:disappoint;
I agree, my car is less than two weeks old and I all ready have pits in the glass. I'm getting worried about paint chips in the front bumper and front leading edge of the hood.
I too agree that the 4GS windshield is way too weak because since I bought it new on March of 2014 i have had to replace the windshield 5 times and this current windshield has two pits on it but fixed on time by safelite service. First two windshield was replaced with $500 deductible because i didnt have glass coverage but it beats paying full price of $3000 per windshield.
The last three windshiled was replaced with 0 deductible because i got smart and decided to pay for glass coverage which was about $8 more per month which is a no brainer.
I dont know why 4GS glass is so fragile.
I use to own a 2006 LS 430 and drove it for 7 years with 230,000 miles on the clock with the original windshield since new and it has never crack or broken. Just 1 pit on the corner of the windshield and the pit never needed glue.
I think it has something to do with the windshield profile, it's more squarish compared to say a Prius. I get more dead bugs on my GS windshield than on my Prius because of the almost flat windshield profile. Bugs and rocks just fly off on the Prius.
But the GS has 0.27 drag coefficient Vs. the Prius 0.26. The Tesla S has an even better 0.24 drag coefficient.
My windshield got a nice little star about two months ago. I ended up getting it repaired instead of replacing the windshield as I'm sure I'll get plenty more down the road. I can't avoid it but driving on I-10 your just asking for rock and paint chips.
Wife's '13 took a nice rock that caused a chip which then cracked across the glass. She called the dealer and they sent out a local company to replace it. Just over 800 bucks. I have no idea who did it as we have gotten sideways with one another over this car and I am over it.

Keep in mind that your Tundra is much higher up than the GS, so it would be less likely to get chips.

True, but I've also owned a 2007 Mazda3, 2008 G35, 2011 Ford GT500, and I had NO issues with the glass on any of those. I guess I shouldn't complain too much, my wife's 08 IS front windshield was replaced with some aftermarket (Pike's?) glass by previous owner, and it is all pitted to hell. Luckily, we plan on getting rid of it in a year or so - waiting for some CPO '16 RX's to show up at dealers.
