Is the new 2016 monitor screen a hardware change or just a software update? It would be nice to have a bigger screen in the 2013-2015 gs

It's probably both, but don't kid yourself, Lexus had a navigation technology "road map" for the GS years ago. First they bring out the big screen with a small map, then at the mid cycle refresh they make it full screen map. If the 13-15 models are not upgradeable to full screen map display because of hardware, computer chips, that was an INTENTIONAL choice by Lexus.

I was thinking it mite be a software update because when the start up animation comes up it shows up on the whole screen.

The 2016 GS like the '16 RX and LX uses the latest Generation 9 navigation. Everything else still uses the laggy Gen 8.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just software. I've seen the new infotainment in action and am not impressed. It's still laggy like the previous generation..

If somebody from Lexus in parts can confirm the part number is the same for the monitor screen then there mite be hope for a software hack upgrade
