Car stalls while stopped in Drive, when brake pressed firmly
#16
If the car is stalling then thats not normal Hil start will never turn the vehicle off. It will only hold the vehicle in idle. but if your is stalling then thats an issue the dealer needs to address.
BTW, when the car stalls, did you press both the accelerator and brake? or simply smashing the brake pedal to the floor

I am at a stop light after driving for a bit. Car in drive obviously, foot on brake. If I press the brake very firmly, almost to where it hits the floor board, the slip indicator light comes on and flashes, and call stalls (or goes into idle). I am forced to shift car into park, and then shift back into drive. Or I have to turn car off, and back on again.

Simultaneous application of both accelerator and brake pedals (at certain speeds and driving conditions) will purposely cut engine power. I do not know what the 'certain speeds and driving conditions' are that cause this event of the engine to cut power. However, if [having] stopped on a hill and when trying to get started without having the vehicle roll backward the driver applies both the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time it may cause the engine to stall, or to feel like it has stalled.

Smart-Stop technology is essentially a brake override system; when engaged, it automatically reduces engine power when the brake and gas pedal are applied simultaneously. It can only engage when the throttle opening is greater than one-third, the vehicle speed is above 5 miles per hour and the brakes are applied firmly.

I found this about those "certain speeds and driving conditions":

When you step on the brake and gas at the same time your engine cuts power to prevent unintended acceleration. This technology is call smart stop technology. When toyota vehicles accelerate and would not stop because of a stuck gas pedal it made toyota design a system that will prevent this by cutting power and overide the gas pedal to safely stop even though the gas pedal is stuck at full throttle.
The side effect of this tech is you can no longer brake torque your car to get the car to launch harder during a drag race.because the car senses that you want to brake and accelerate at same time an will cut power which is bad for racing

For some reason when i hold the brake moderatly and floor the gass pedal I lose power. I even tried it the other way aroung and press lightly on the gas pedal so i can have some rpms on thd take and under 5 mph i still lose engine power. I even tried this while in park with emergency brake on and as soon as i rev the engine while stepping on the brake I lose engine power even though I am going zero miles per hour.

Yeah i know right? It sucks for me especially I regularly take my GS to the track. Brake torqueing my car would be lots of fun . Maby i have a revised version of smart stop.

Try it again, this time step on the gas or let off the brake and wait a couple of seconds. Pressing the brake pedal firmly until the traction light flashes indicates hill assist. Meaning it'll hold your brake for a few seconds before releasing; this way you don't roll back and love tap the car behind you. disengages after a few seconds or when the gas pedal is depressed.
Now if your engine turns completely off there's something wrong with your hill assist.

You guys are the best, def. saved me a trip to the dealer.
I am either able to hit the gas, or wait 3 seconds after the traction light appears.
Thanks!
