Talking OEM HID Color shift

The HID on this car is pretty "yellow" compared to what I am used to.

Is it the projector or will the color shift to more white as the time goes on? Had the car for 3 weeks and I don't drive too much at night.

Thanks.

Mine looks pretty normal for stock 4200K color temp HID's. If you are comparing to the aftermarket 5000K or 6000K color temp HID bulbs, yes, the 4200K will look more yellow.

Depending on the bulbs as they age they will slowly color shift. If I recall correctly, Osram bulbs shift toward pink and will dramatically turn pink at the very end of their lives. Philips will shift blue at the end of their lives. When they color shift to the point you notice a color difference, the light output will have dropped to a fraction of the light output when new.

Just an FYI, 4200K color temp puts out the most light but 'whiter' (bluer) lights sometimes 'seem' brighter because of the way our eyes see the color spectrum.

How old is your car? I think even stock bulbs shift colors after 200 hours or so. Maybe I am wrong haha

Anyone know the model number of the Philips bulbs in our cars?

I recently bought a 2013 GS350 F-sport that had only 18K miles on it but I had an Acura TL and other cars with HID bulbs in them which I have replaced when they go out. Color on them are pretty stable when new (maybe a slight shift) so don't expect a large shift in color temp from what you currently have. If you want a whiter color temp but don't want to deviate too much and start looking too 'blueish', I would suggest going with Philips 5000K bulbs.

You can also try the Osram CBI bulbs that have a 5,000k color temp with no lumen loss from 4100k stock.
