good to know... i replaced my pads already... you think i would need a new set also? like would there be any chance it can ruin the new rotors cuss its been used on uneven rotors

I have a 2014 Lexus GS 350 F Sport RWD and replaced the OEM brake rotors and pads with EBC rotors and Akebono brake pads. I also installed brake hardware and resurfaced the rotors. I absolutely hear no noise coming from my brakes. This is my 3rd brake job before I found a combination that didnt squeal or squeak. My mechanic also suggested using slotted rotors as well to prevent warping. I currently do not have slotted rotors but will swap them once I cant resurface the EBC's I have on now anymore. Follow the setup below for a noise free brake job!

1. Rotors = EBC RK Series Plain Vented Brake Rotors (you can also choose a slotted rotor to prevent warping)
2. Front Brake Pads = Akebono Act1118 Pro Act Ceramic Brake pads
3. Rear Brake Pads = Akebono Act1391 Pro Act Ceramic Brake pads
4. Front Brake Hardware = Centric 117.44061 Front Disc Brake Hardware Kit
5. Rear Brake Hardware = Centric 117.44029 Rear Disc Brake Hardware Kit
6. Resurface rotors

Let us know in 4-6 months if it's still squeal free.

Wait, so you put new rotors on *and* resurfaced them? What's the thought process behind that? (genuine question, i have no clue when to/not to resurface/turn/replace rotors)

Yes in my case, I had to resurface them. New rotors shouldn't have to be resurfaced. This is my 3rd pair of brake pads with the same rotor.

There is nothing wrong with resurfacing rotors when doing a brake job 'if' it is done right. Removing .020" to .030" off a rotor to clean them up and make them true is good practice. This minimal amount of surface removal is insignificant. It's rare that used rotors are still perfectly true when new brake pads are needed - they usually have a high spot, which is something easily detected when the used rotor is secured on the lathe and scratch cut when the machine is being set up.

If you are concerned that an unnecessary amount of metal will be removed during the resurfacing process, you might even be able to request that the mechanic leave a 'witness mark' (a small area of rotor surface where no metal was removed) on the rotors to demonstrate that the least amount of rotor surface was removed. You want the resurfacing (metal removing) process to take a while - with multiple passes of the cutting bit needing adjustments to achieve the resurfacing. What you do not want is an inexperienced mechanic or a mechanic that is in a hurry to complete the resurfacing process by setting up the lathe's cutting bit to cut too deeply and remove too much metal surface in just a single pass.

Also, there is noting wrong when installing new rotors, or resurfaced rotors, to intentionally rough up the rotor's surface a little by scratching the surface using an abrasive emery pad on a drill to take the glaze off to help 'seat' the new brake pads and increase the bite.

I think I'm one of the few here that doesn't have issues with my front brakes. 18 F Sport RWD with the 2 piece rotors with 8k miles on the car. The first thing I did when I bought it new was replace the pads with ceramic. I've never had one issue so far and don't have brake dust build up either. Knock on wood, I hope it stays that way. Of course I never drive the car aggressively or brake hard.

EBC actually recommends it. They did the on car brake lathe on my last set of EBC rotors as it speeds the bed in process and eliminates any imperfections in the brake rotors or any runout in the bearing/hub assembly.

Brake squeal started about 4 months ago on my '14 GS 350 F Sport AWD, and gradually got louder. Got this car in late October '17 with 21k miles on it....now, has 73k. I had Toyota (they're much closer than the nearest Lexus dealer) replace the rear pads back in March. A few months later, I started to hear the squealing. Assumed it was time to do my front pads. Went back to Toyota and was told everything was fine (front and back) and if I could deal with the sound, no need to replace anything. Got really annoying, so went to Lexus on Saturday and received the bad news. They had to replace everything (rear only this time, but fronts are getting bad too) ...rotors, pads, shims. There was so much rust build up on the rotor that it was preventing the pads from making flush contact. The uneven wearing caused a pretty sizable groove in the rotor. So much for being told there was no issue. Total cost for replacement was $800. Driving home yesterday, the brakes felt MUCH better. But, as I got off the highway and closer to home, I heard the squealing again. Once I work a ton of OT and pay this off, I'll get the fronts done.

Default Replacement shims fixed the squeaking

Old thread, but hopefully this helps other folks still searching. Found this article referring to replacement shims to eliminate the squeaking on a 2018 GS-350 F-sport. Even the parts guy was skeptical, but it works beautifully. No more squeaking!

This did not work on my car. The TSB pads with the shims was the hot ticket.

Im having this issue with my 2015 GS f sport. It's both embarrassing and annoying. I got a quote from a local Lexus dealer to have lower quality brakes put on for $800 which should resolve the issue as this is a performance brake issue. Does that price sound reasonable?
