Default Paint damage under license plate?

So this morning I went to put on my new license plates as I just got my GS 350 a few days ago. When I took off the rear plate that was on there, this is what was underneath:

I specified for the car to be detailed before I got it and they agreed and did detail it. Is this something that should have been checked/fixed or am I being picky? I meticulously looked at all pictures of the car, but as I bought out of state I couldn't examine it i person and obviously this wouldn't show in the pictures with a plate on. I don't want to be "that customer" so I wanted to check with you guys if this is something I should be upset about or not.

How bad is this damage, and how should I go about fixing it? Does everyone here put rubber bumpers/stoppers on the bottom of their rear license plate to prevent this? If so, is there a certain kind I should get?

I have this damage on my car too, although I caused it myself by putting on the plate too tight without any type of border on it. First and last time I'll make that mistake.

Anyway, I don't think mine is as bad as yours. I asked an auto body shop if mine would rust and they said they didn't think it scratched deep enough to rust.

I'm not sure what I'd do in your situation. I'd definitely be upset about it, especially if you just bought it. I'm not sure if an auto body shop would be able to apply something to stop it from rusting more... If that option exists I'd probably try to get the dealer to pay for that to be done.

Yeah, its difficult since I bought it out of state. Even if it was something the dealer was responsible for...does it have to go through Lexus and have the dealer here do it? Not really sure. I'll get it looked at next time I'm at the dealer and see what they say.

Yeah, mine was like that too. Luckily I caught it before leaving the dealership when I was buying it used. They paid for the $600 repair just to paint only that section of the trunk. Now I have a few rubber pads stuck to the car so any rubbing will take place between the pad and the plate.

I did try two different Lexus dealerships for a warranty rust claim but they both said it would be a waste of time as It was caused by neglect.

I put a body side molding on that part (the thick black hard rubber one) since day one. It stops the rattle when closing the trunk lid too. I do have some paint damage on the top part though, where the 2 white stickers are.

Buy one of these rubber self adhesive strips, and apply behind the license plate.

A few strategically placed felt or silicone adhesive pads work well to protect the paint and also to keep the plate/frame from vibrating..
