We've been experiencing quite the little windstorm here in the PNW over the last day or so. Lots of power outages and such.
Last night I set out to the grocery store after the kids were in bed to pick up a few items. Got caught in a huge gust. Car to my right came in my lane so I was forced to swerve left and ended up slamming into a center median curb. Arg.
Very thankful that the damage was limited to just the wheels and tires. I fully expected from bumper damage but luckily there was none. Front left wheel and tire are destroyed completely. Rear left tire is beyond repair with a large sidewall gash, and the wheel suffered quite a bit of damage too, but not nearly like the front wheel.
So currently I have ordered two new wheels and two new Michelin Primacy tires. Car is currently at my dealer. Suspension inspection checks out and they'll do an alignment when the wheels and tires come in. Wheels are due in tomorrow but the tires not until next week. I was planning on a "detailing day" tomorrow (Friday) to put on the CQUK coating, but I guess that will have to wait.
In the mean time I have a loaner NX200t to drive, so I am appreciative of that. I'm pleasantly surprised at just how fun it is to drive around in.
My poor GS doesn't even have 2k miles on it yet. C'est la vie. Could have been worse!
It could have been a lot worse so I am thankful, just frustrated that it happened. All for a quick trip to the grocery store for $2 worth of celery for my daughters school project and green food coloring for St Pats Day beer...
I decided not to take any pictures. I probably should have but figured photos would make it harder to forget...
Scary stuff man, but at least you're safe. I recently had a similar incident in my GS. On my way to work one day a deer jumped in front of me and I swerved to avoid it. I ended up running over a median and stopping on the opposite side of the street. At first I too thought I just had some wheel/tire and fender damage. But after the inspection by my insurance company, it ended up being about 16k in damages. So definitely make sure they do a thorough inspection. Good luck!
Got her back yesterday. Took a painful week to get fixed. She's back after an inspection, alignment, two new wheels, and two new tires. $1930 after tax. Gulp.
