Bad deal. Save the $1,400 for repairs.

I would do it - I actually did something similar in that I bought a CPO but added coverage so I'm covered for 6 years. I have a 5 year loan so thats some nice peace of mind for me. The engine and general build quality doesn't worry me a bit; its the electronics and such that I worry about. If something goes wrong with the stereo, GPS, or seat heaters/coolers and its going to get pricey fast.

I bought my GS in October and have had one warranty repair so far. The retaining clip for one of the front parking sensors broke, and then the sensor fell inside the bumper and broke. All covered under warranty but it ended up being like a $600 job with parts and labor, plus they gave me a loaner for the night while waiting for the part.

May i ask that 40k is OTD or selling price?

So $40k plus another $3500 for tax and license plus $1400 for certification? So out the door $45k roughly?

I just bought a 2014 GS350, and by "just" I mean within the last 2 hours, and my salesman said that I would get the standard maintenance checks for free meaning every oil change, the 30K maintenance etc. Ask if this is the case for you, if so that may be worth it.

i bought the extended warranty. i have the l/certified warranty that goes up to 100k miles or six years, though, as i bought prior to the unveiling of the unlimited mile certified warranty (during the 2015 december to remember sales event). the warranty provides me peace of mind as it covers the length of the loan and then some (i have a five year loan). anyhow, i have an IS and not a GS, but i thought i'd contribute as the extended warranty eases any anxieties i have about paying on a car and then potentially having something costly go wrong.

Total OTD was $43k and I did finance it at 2.49%.

i just reread the entire thread -- if you aren't sure you will have the car past four years then don't buy the additional warranty. if you think that you really may keep the car for a longer period of time, go for it, but don't pay $1,400. negotiate down. oh, and don't purchase the warranty because you think it will increase resale value. you likely won't get what you initially put into it back, in this case the extended warranty.

Here's what it covers if anyone wants the reference. I just bought one last night and mine was packaged in, I didn't even check to see if it was a line item. I think it's worth CLOSE to 1400, but not quite. When I bought my last one I would have said it isn't worth that much, but seeing as you get the free maintenances that may bring it close to that value. If you need it once then it probably becomes worth it though. It's a dice roll.

Most cars at the dealership will likely have already been CPO. I think with their new plans with unlimited miles warranty, $1,400 is a very good deal along with maintenance ($600 or for 30K) and piece of mind. You are spending a lot for a car and you would want to know that whatever happens, it will be taken care of.

This car was CPO which came with the 2 years additional warranty and next 4 services for free. I thought that 2 more years on top of it along with piece of mind is worth it. If I sell car before those 2 years I can get a refund on it, or if I sell after/to individual I think it will help sell car better since warranty is good selling point.
My last car was a 2011 mercedes e350 and had extended warranty on it. With the multiple issues I had (ECM, wiring, backup camera failure, etc) it definitely paid for itself. Even better when I sold my car mercedes refunded close to 90% of originally paid amount so it was worth it no doubt. I do realize Lexus cars don't, usually, have so many issues but option is nice to have.

I think I misunderstood your title. If your car is already pre-owned, I wouldn't recommend adding anything extra. It's just not needed. You will have the remainder of the factory warranty or 4 years. Then you'll have another 2 years on top of that if I am not mistaken. I think the additional 2 years for $1,400 is overkill.

Like others have said, used that money and throw some cool parts on the car!
