Just bought a 2014 GS, looking for bluntly honest opinions on my deal

I think the reason why we're all here is dealers notoriously screw people over. Thus, building intelligence about the buy is a part of the negotiation process. I think your position is naive to believe your upholding some sort of loyalty because you've negotiated some sort of special deal.
A dealer never loses-ever. If the transaction is lower than they want, there are always hold-back incentives for volume, etc.
Your job is to get the best price possible and their job is to get you to pay the most.

But hey. Whatever works for them. I don't see it as naïveté as much as I see it as sanctimony.

Everyone is welcome to live their life the way they want to. I live by a set of ethics and standards that I believe have made me who I am. I could give a ***** less if people on a forum agree with me or not, or if you think I'm being naive. I have nothing to prove to anyone on the forum.
But I am likely to deal with these dealers again and most of them treat me with respect and make me very good deals without eight hours of haggling once they get to know me. And they will bust their azz for me if I have a problem with the vehicle.

'Sall good as long as you aren't the one getting screwed. Just admit that you only care about you getting a good deal. I know that's how i'd feel. It still wouldn't stop me from helping someone else get a good deal as well if I have any say in it.
The dealer is there to move cars (mfg incentives, allocation preference), making money on the front end is just the cherry on top and most people are happy to oblige this.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, and I'm actually a nice guy. I've worked in "professional sales" and management and dealing with very large customers for 40 years. I'm currently a Suppler Relations Director for a large distributor, so I fully get the concepts you are talking about. Part of my job is negotiating and managing the back end deals.
I don't mind sharing some of what I know about deals, but I feel like posting what I was given for my trade when the dealer is trying to sell it crosses a line. I realize there is almost no chance that the dealer would ever know if I did share that info, but as I said, I hold myself to what I consider to be high ethical standards. Naive or not it's just who I am and I'm a believer that consistency of ethics has served me well.
Not to say I'm perfect or that I'm better, we all have things that are important to us and we all interpret what is and isn't proper behavior differently. I'm open minded and like a good debate. I'm not always right, but I always try to do what I think is right.

Now how do people know if they got a good deal from the dealer?? Manufacturers will offer incentives to a dealer if the dealer takes in let's say maybe 30 ES's vs. normal inventory. Question answered, the consumer has no idea what the dealer has in that car.

Seriously, why would I care about people I don't know?

I have not a clue what that comment means in relation to what I said and I'd be very curious as to what you mean. For the record I cannot stand Donald Trump. Please explain.

I think hes just being funny jjscsix
The issue here is that dealers are nobody's friends...they are there to try to make as much money as possible. Do a poll on the forum and I guarantee every single person on this forum has been screwed over, at some time or another by a salesman/dealer.
Out of curiosity jjscsix, what kind of car you replacing your GS with?

We traded it for a 2016 GX460. My wife wanted back in an SUV.

I got 2014 Fsport that cost me half of what average out the door from dealerships paid, the only downside is 'salvage' title but I don't care....

Being loyal to a dealer is like being loyal to a casino. Sure, they may offer you special perks to make you feel like a VIP, but in the end, there is a 99% chance you'll be screwed or walk away on the losing end.
Btw, if you are truly smart about your money, you wouldn't buy from a dealer to begin with and would probably wait until the maximum amount of depreciation has deflated off a car (typically, the first few years of a car's life). There is always a trade off with purchasing a vehicle using this approach though. Of course, almost all cars are depreciating assets, so you're only trying to minimize that blow to your bank account.
Going back to the OP's question to prevent getting too off topic: For a 14' GS Premium (non F-Sport) with 15K miles & CPO warranty, you got a decent deal, nothing to brag about. I can tell you for a fact, the dealer definitely didn't "take a loss" as they try to make it out to seem.

Needless to say, I could spend the next thee weeks on this post giving examples of discrepancies from one transaction to the next in virtually every business imaginable. So why does everyone pick on dealers?

Never believe a dealer when they claim to be taking a loss on a sale. It's simply another line in a long list of "beliefs" they use to lay on a customer to make them feel good. They are basically riding on the high of selling a car a customer loves and has worked through some negotiations.
They are also in the business to make money, not lose it. If they were losing money, they'd be out of business in no time. No business survives losing money on deals.
Enjoy your nice car... that's really what matters at this point.
