Yes Steve.
Small & midsize luxury sedans down, while small & midsize SUV's sales up.

Wow I didn't realize the GS had such low sales or that many people don't like the revised look. I originally didn't like the 4th gen GS at all but it grew on me and now i like it. i actually like the new look except for the tailights. My wife on the other hand doesn't like it at all. She thinks the front doesn't flow with the rest of the car. She says the front looks really agressive and the rest not so much and that it is trying to be something it's not.

We are looking at leasing a new GS but knowing that a lot of people got great lease deals on the GS in December/January in the $500-$600 price range with 0 down (although this was on 2015's), I refuse to pay more than that since the MSRP is very similar. I contacted a number of dealers and the residuals, money factor and lease cash suck right now so unless that gets back to where it was I won't lease one. Similar to the GTR in 2014, when they were taking $20k off the price of new ones, I can't justify paying more than that based on principle. It's a want and not a need so I can wait or look elsewhere at another car instead.

my 08 gs350 msrp was 52k and change

my 15 gs350 msrp was also 52k and change

how does the 10k difference come by? just by looking at loaded 3gs350 vs loaded 4gs350? i don't think that's apple to apple when 4gs has fsport and stuff like rses that 3gs didn't have. i am not saying 4gs has no price increase but i am not sure about the 10k part

I contacted few dealers to get a quote on a lease for a 2016 gs 350 f sport. Msrp $58,XXX. With $2000 down / the payments ranged from $600-700 with 10k miles.
Looks like the residual / money factor is not great.

I just remember getting a nicely equipped 3GS for under 50K....AWD no less. My 4GS was $59K....granted it had the F-Sport package, but not sure that warrants the substantial increase in price.

I hate to say it, but if they moved sticker on these to under 50K, might as well rename the brand to the better Genesis. At this point in time its hard to be a proper luxury maker. Your stuck with the Lexus Customer base from yester year for the most part who you would loose if you move pricing inline with BMW and the rest of the mainstream luxury makers but then you if want to gain market share from BMW you also cannot devalue your sticker.

If your 4GS was $59k it had way more equipment than was ever available on a 3GS. You need to compare a lightly optioned premium package GS to a 3GS, and you'll find as rominl posted above theres not a big increase there.

That was also 8 years ago. 8 years ago you could buy an LS460 with an MSRP in the 60s. Today a loaded ES350 is $50k. Times change.

2016 4.5GS Refresh sales seems to have been hit harder than competition like run out E Class etc.
I'm sure after six months or so, Lexus will begin to discount the 2016 4.5GS Refresh, and sales will start to take off again to around 20,000 units per year etc.

It's interesting to see how old 3GS with its more mainstream design sold a much heftier 35,000 units first year, and 28,000 units second year, but then really collapsed with GFC, and the introduction of the Hyundai Genesis & Cadillac VTS etc.
On the other hand, the current gen 4GS with its sporty emphasis and niching has a weaker start with only 20,000 odd units sold, but so far has also managed to maintain that figure consistently for four years in a row now...

The lease numbers might have changed but my broker got my over $6k off MSRP on a $58k GS back in March. I paid just drive off plus about $4k in multiple security deposits (MSDs) and my payment was $497 per month for 36 months 10k miles per year

PM me if you want his info - he can help you regardless of where you are in Cali.

Nothing wrong with the GS:
- General public preference towards SUVs.
- Lack of incentives. The incentive removal was way too quick and abrupt.
- ES cannibalization. I'm sure a lot more ES buyers would end up in the GS if ES wouldn't exist. As I pointing earlier, none of the competitors have such a weird line-up: IS, ES, GS, LS.

I have 8 months now with the GS. Overall I love the car but lots of little details are putting it behind the German competition. Would I buy it again? Yes, if it's 20% cheaper than a similar German.

I got offered $5k off before negotiating anything so over $6k shouldn't be too hard. The problem is the money factor, residual and dealer cash isn't great right now. The dealer cash in December was $4,500 and no first month payment so the deals were really good. I also don't want to tie up $4k in security deposits either. I want to put zero down and roll about $3k in taxes in too.

so it is not apple to apple. you got top of the line 4gs that has a lot more things that you couldn't get in the 3gs. it's almost like saying the 3gs has gs460 and that's more expensive

in any case, my opinion i think the 4gs350 is overall great value.

I am surprised the 3GS sold better then the current one but it was a different time when the 3GS was released and the 3GS had a somewhat affordable V8 option at least compared to a GS-F. I really think they made a huge mistake by yanking the V8 option in the 4th Gen GS, kind of took the mystique from the car, adding a lame 4cyl base has clearly not helped any. The 3rd Gen GS350 was also quicker in most tests compared to the 4th Gen GS350 though the 3GS was nowhere near as nice a driver as the 4th Gen. I know a lot of people love the 4GS interior but I think many buyers don't care for the design or mouse control. I think the biggest thing is most buyers look at the ES and GS and just don't see a reason to spend the extra on the GS especially when the GS is not that much quicker or has that much more power compared to ES300 and GS400 back in the day.
