Default Pre-Collision System (PCS) - What doe is actually do?

My 2015 GS450H comes with a PCS. Can someone tell me (or point to a reliable description) of what the PCS actually does? Does PCS stop the car (autonomous breaking) if the driver does not react to a collision, or does PCS "pre load" the brakes, but the driver must ultimately stop the car?

I hope to never find out, but would like to know for peace of mind.

thanks,
