Opti Coat vs. CQuartz and the use of XPEL
Pros?
Cons?
Expense?
The only shop in Virginia Beach does CQ and depending on correction level required, is a 3 day process. 2 yr guarantee and is $1400-1600 for a sedan this size.
Thoughts? Experiences? Long term experience?

I had OptiCoat on my IS and have CQ on my GS. Both products are awesome. I feel like CQ is a little smoother, but both are great. My OC held up on my IS for over two years. I've only had the CQ on my GS for about 6 months.

Also check the detailing forum. Lots of info there on coatings.

Both Cq and opticoat are great products, it comes to proper prepping and applying the product. But in my observation with CQ, high end cars seems to go with the CQ finest. I have the CQ UK on my Evo and its held up really good, the crazy beading is still there. But I maintain it with carpro reset as suggested. As with Xpel, it really pays for itself esp if applied when the vehicle is newly bought. I have the Xpel Ultimate applied on the full front end of my GS and have not had any chips of any kind yet esp with the crazy interstate here in Houston.

With price the CQ finest with the size of our car will be 1k up depending on the amount of correction needed, the Xpel I payed more than 2k for the full front end (bumper, full hood, fender and side mirrors.

Can't speak for xpel, but CQ gives more of a shine than OC while OC provides more protection. Here's a thread where someone did a side-by-side comparison of OC and CQ: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...0-cquartz.html. I have OC on my 4GS and get compliments on it but CQ might stand out more to the attentive eye.

It depends on the color of your car, according to my installer. CQ finests works better for darker colored cars and will make them have more gloss. Opticoat is better suited for lighter colored cars. I have obsidian black, so i did cq finest and suntek for my PPF. Again, he advised that suntek worked better with darker cars. Side note, suntek was cheaper than the xpel, so there was no upsell.

Do it yourself. I use GTechniq products - Panel Wipe to clean, C1 (2 coats) then ExoV2. Holds up 18 months, apply to painted surfaces, glass and plastic. Keeps headlights clear and gives a great finish. Ignore the C5 wheel coats, still require wiping to remove brake dust. Takes all weekend but worth it.
