Default ML system bass gets too distorted

I've had a 2013 GS before and that ones sound system never has this issue with the bass, it was always crisp and that was with the regular speakers. I got a new 16 GS with the ML speakers and this ones doesn't sound as crisp on louder volumes

I don't even have the bass setting up too much, only one bar higher then the middle

what can i do? I listen to hiphop/rap music so bass is a important part of the music

Try turning off/on the auto volume and surround. For my Bluetooth, all had to be off. It varied depending on how I was listening to music.

You may be hearing door switch pieces rattling, not the rear shelf, if that's what you're calling distortion. The dealer can pop the cups and put felt tape in there. I run mine at 45 with the bass one notch off max with all kinds of music and it stays nice.

Are you streaming from a phone? Check the tone settings on the phone, I'm guessing it might have the bass settings turned way up.

I can see the rear shelf bouncing in the mirror. That or the mirror is vibrating with the bass but I think it is the former.

45?! I don't go anywhere above 40, after that my rearview mirror starts shaking uncontrollably!

I turned off the "Auto leveling" feature...that made the sound MUCH better. Not as loud, but when I crank it up, it's not distorting like it was.

X2^^!! wow...only time I've even had it over 30 is when the service advisor was trying to pinpoint a rattle in my driver side door.

That is interesting. Do you keep it lower than 30 because of distortion or because of volume. It sounds horrible if I crank my volume up but it isn't hugely loud. Surprising since it is supposed to be putting out 835 Watts. I'd expect to run a rock concert on that sort of power ;-)

Well for me personally it just gets pretty loud in the upper 20s...Plus like someone else mentioned, I prefer there be significant bass so that starts to drown out everything else. But i'm with you on the expected output level given those wattage stats! OP shouldn't have distortion with the ML

You gotta consider some math here also. There are 17 speakers being driven by 835 watts in the ML system. They're not _all_ using an equal share of that power either, but still, it's not like 835 watts coming out of a pair of stereo speakers, blowing your hair back.
