Are you getting the brakes done? Otherwise, why even bother? Just wait till you do your brakes and get it all done at once. A good indy shop will do this for you no problem.

I actually ended doing the brake flush myself about a year ago and did a DIY:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...h-for-4gs.html

Then I got my brake fluid flushed again at 60K last month as part of the 4 free services from my GS being CPO.

I did a full flush on my 2001 GS430 at like 60k. I never did it again. Sold it at190k, and never had an issue.

The only time any of my vehicles get any brake fluid is when I'm breaking the system apart and have lost fluid. One of my cars has never had the fluid flushed until I swapped front disc brakes on it. 1971 vintage DOT3 and it was still working fine. Brake fluid does not wear out. It might get contaminated or draw moisture but a closed system won't draw enough to do any real harm. DOT3 & DOT4 are alcohol based and will hold moisture in suspension. DOT5 is synthetic, incompatible with DOT3 & 4 and won't hold moisture in suspension due to the silicon base.

It is your money and you can do with it what you like but I think it is an unnecessary expense.

Those of you who are not regularly flushing the system may be hit with a $2000 bill at some point. Especially if you plan to keep your car for the long term. My brother had a Camry that was not flushed for a while and his brake controller failed. It was 2K to replace on that car so it may be more for a Lexus. No matter how well the system is sealed it WILL absorb water and if it's not flushed regularly the components will fail. I live in south Texas which has high humidity and it's easy for water to infiltrate the system. Even in cold climates the constant heating and cooling on the calipers could cause absorption of water.

Take a chance on it if you really want to. Not me!!!

I think that is a bunch of FUD, Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. I guess for the guys that write a check, swipe a card or contact their iPhone for everything, sure, go ahead, spend funds on unnecessary services. I've never had a brake failure in 40 years of driving. You are more likely to have a failure in a soft line than anything else because they move, are flexed and are subject road conditions. I have replaced many of these before they fail upon inspection.

Lexus enginears must be real idiots for suggesting fluid flushes at 30k... Got my 14 RX done a couple of weeks ago for $120 with a coupon at the dealer. For that kind of chump change it's not worth it to me personally to get under the car for that kind of $$. It's amazing how many people on this forum are so cheap when it comes to their $50k car!

I recently paid $160 at the dealer.. i think it's like $10-$15 for fluid and $140 for labor.

I really do hope they flushed it at the wheels, not at the reservoir...

To each his own. I am mechanically inclined so I only pay the cost of brake fluid since I do my own flushes. For me it's minimal cost.
There are pros and cons either way but brakes are nothing to be complacent about. They stop your car!!! For the way I drive (sometimes pretty aggressive) and the traffic that we have in Houston I'd rather not take the chance on a failure.

So, according to Lexus, transmission fluid lasts forever but brake fluid wears out?

Good point. I just don't see an issue on cheap maintenance that Lexus recommends. Some cars may never have an issue due to the lack of fluid changes and others may.

That's because a brake system flush is a cash cow for the dealership. I mean it's something you could do on 100K, sure, I guess.

I had a 2010 Camry LE V6 that went 260,000 miles without a "brake flush". I think the brakes were bled a total of one time in that interval too, at about 250K when I had the rears replaced.

Most people on here are not original purchasers and bought their car for much much less. Second, you were frugal enough to use a coupon? Thirdly, not fair of you to judge how people spend money, your money your choice, their money their choice. Live and let live.
