I used to live in the Midwest and because of the snow, the carpeting used to get pretty nasty. Now that I live on the California Coast, the carpet works fine year round and it's the nicest thing to have in there. My car came with the rubber mats too and I sold them.

Definitely carpet, but I live in the south and don't work construction, so I don't have to deal with that mess. Also I've found that the color of carpet mats makes a big difference, I know Toyota has sometimes used very light grey mats that match the light grey carpet in the past. Well that's just stupid, if you have black mats(or dark brown ones like my SC) with lighter color base carpet, that's a breeze to keep clean. I just shake them out when they get a bit dirty, maybe every month or two I really vacume the interior and use some carpet cleaner(Blue Coral that you buy at Autozone works great) on them, give them a light scrub, they look like new again.

Personally, I prefer carpet. I find that with rubber, water takes forever to dry up and I end up with the sides of my shoes getting wet too. It also has to be constantly cleaned to keep it black plus I can't get over that rubber smell.

WeatherTech digital fit FTW. Original owner used factory carpet mats, and you can see on the driver's side considerable wear from shoes (boots?) and under the mat is water staining that leaked through the mat.

I find them so easy to vacuum the mulch from the kid and it's one less source of dust in the car for me to remove.

I love carpet but I live in a winter state so I change the mats over for winter from carpet to all weather even though car sits in garage if I need to or feel like using car I do. Carpet does feel and look better though.

ALWAYS go rubber. I have done it in every car I have ever owned and its not because of my kids, it is because it makes cleaning, rainy days with a wet umbrella, spilled fast food/greasy pizza box messes not a huge problem. That all said, to me, they look great and dont wear like carpet does.

Has anyone else tried the Maxpider Carpeted floor mats? I have them in my car and my wife's car and love them. They are molded to the floor with high-ish sides and are rubber backed like rubber all weather mats but the surface is carpeted with a patches for the high wear spots from heels. They have held up great, look good and are easy to clean. They are not cheap, but they are not crazy expensive either. They also have ones called 3D that looks like a textured rubber, I have never seen them in person and much prefer carpet anyways.

I've got an AWD model and bought Weather Techs for just the front for $90 on Amazon. They fit perfectly, are easy to clean, and don't cause your shoes to stick to them like Lexus rubber mats.

I use carpet for when it isn't winter, and rubber for winter. I just put in my rubber mats today.

I actually find the rubber harder to clean. They get discolored and you can't just vacuum them you have to actually hose them out or get down with cleaner and protectant to make them look new again, while the carpet mats you just vacuum. For winter the protection is important though.
