BMW got beat up badly, I suspect we'll see at least a drift back toward driver focus, if not a jump...but hey, I could be wrong the F10 and F30 have been huge sellers.

The grass is always greener on the other side. This for the guys bashing any car and thinking the other car owners are satisfied and doesn't look at other cars the same way. To clarify I don't own any of these cars but I test drove some and sat in them.
I think the GS has a better interior design (subjective), driving dynamics, reliability, resale value and it is faster. However the BMW has a better exterior design (Subjective), MPG and more comfortable ride.

Yes, presently the 5 Series does have a more compliant ride than the more firmly sprung GS which has less weight transfer to the outside wheels for sharper steering response, and greater grip than the 5 Series.
As for styling, the original 4GS is nice, but the 5 Series has a bit more oomph in the styling, while the new refreshed 4.5GS has even more oomph in its styling, but it might be way too much oomph for many bread and butter buyers in this class.
It's all a compromize.
Pick whichever set of pros and cons suits you best.
