If I were OP, I'd push for write-off. Black color is most difficult to match, once such a damage is repaired there will be miscellaneous nagging minor issues here and there plus when time comes to sell it or trade it in......Insurance co. always will try to save money. Some how when my daughter's first car, Subaru Impreza got crunched(not her fault) on the rear quarter section, insurance company wrote it off. Amount of check she received was more than the market value of the car.
I totally agree! It's a shame to see a nice car wrecked but, this stuff happens when we have to drive them. If it were mine I would want the car totaled if possible cut my losses and get a replacement that hasn't been wrecked. I would never be comfortable owning a car that's been repaired that's had that kind of damage.
It's a 100% totaled unless the OP wants to get it fixed My friend happen to have access to salvage car auction and I was checking it out. Check out this one and there soo many with minor accidents being sold as a totaled salvage cars.
my insurance rep quoted it at 11k and told me it was at least another 10k before they would deem it a total loss. Is it possible to fight that estimate and ask for a write off instead or is it something the lexus body shop has to inspect and make the call?

In your state of NY the damage must be 75% of the vehicle's value before it can be considered totaled. There is almost always some leeway, but not such a significant amount ($10k) as you were told.
It sounds like they put an 'actual cash value' on your vehicle at approximately $28k, because $11k + $10k = $21k and $21k is 75% of $28k.

Thank you, that is what my rep told me as well. In that case at least 10k worth of additonal costs have to be found for it to be deemed "totaled" which may seem improbable given the current estimate...

I'd say you're right. Pushing the estimate higher by a couple thousand dollars is possible, but raising it by $10k is (as you said) improbable.
I had called the dealer few months ago for a new hood and paint job and they quoted me 1500$ just to prime and paint and so with actual new hood I was looking in access of 3k. So an estimate of 11k to fix looks they are gonna use after market parts or something.

I spoke with the body shop and they are using all original parts on the vehicle. The estimate from my insurance company listed some aftermarket parts but the body shop is not going down that route. the difference was only $600 dollars (body shop confirmed).
Its finally back! Picked up the car last night and spent the last few hours examining every detail i could find. Everything was replaced with original parts and had them throw on the f sport bumper since the difference was just a few dollars from a non - f sport. Couldn't be happier
