Lexus has had that "Snow" button on their cars for a while - i know my 2GS (which was RWD) had that button as well. As others said, "Snow" mode tells the ECU to reduce throttle response so the tires have time to grip the pavement and you don't slip when pressing the gas. It def. does not allow you to drive "normally" or spirited when there is snow/ice on the road. I feel like traction control essentially does the same thing as the "Snow" mode as it tries to limit power to the wheels and throttle when it senses slippage...having both def. helps.

Extra weight in the trunk/rear will help. All season tires will be better than the summer rubber...winter tires will be best if at all possible. The best thing is to put some weight in the trunk (sand/gravel bags), have snow mode on, traction control on, drive very carefully, accelerate slowly. Or just bust out the AWD SUV and leave the GS at home when it snows

I'll never forget - about 8 years ago when i still had my RWD 2GS, I parked and there was ice that formed in the spot where I parked. When i came back, I absolutely could NOT get out of the spot --reverse, drive, snow mode, pushing, using an ice pick to break up the ice near the rear wheels, etc. It was a very frustrating experience as I was by myself initially. Eventually I got a back of sand/gravel and threw it all around the rear wheels and I put some "junk in the trunk" to add weight. I was finally able to get out after being stuck for about 45min.

Always take it easy in the snow with RWD. I used to "fish tail" in my old RWD GS with just 1inch of snow on the ground (with all season tires) and its a scary feeling.

I think 'Snow' mode also starts in 2nd gear instead of 1st gear.

Always a lot of debate on that one. It may vary by transmission, AWD or RWD, etc, but my 2015 AWD still starts in 1st gear in snow mode. Others have said their GS350s do start in second in snow mode.

Agree about the 'debate' on 2nd or 1st gear. It definitely sends a signal to the ECU to alter the throttle responsiveness.
