Unfortunately kids these days can’t appreciate a stick shift… smh… it’s an AT, but still fun to drive and a good looking little car.

I don't mean to alarm you, and I am a big fan of the car, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on.
I bought Toyota so I wouldn’t have to worry about reliability, so of course the first I read about this was yesterday when I joined the GR86 forum, 3 days after the purchase, smh again. It’s unfortunate but it does not appear to be a widespread issue. My fingers are crossed…

Tsk tsk… @JDR76 you want to get one so you can add to your car museum? LOL.
it’s a nifty little car but this 5 decade old body did not enjoy the physical requirements needed to get in and out of a car that has the same seat height as the asphalt! And after riding in the GS for 4 years, the stiff suspension of the GR would not work for me as a daily driver. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, and I’ll enjoy polishing and detailing it this week, but it’s like medicine… taken in small doses only.
@chinee Wondering your opinion on the Ecoboost Mustang and whether you cross-shopped.
Mustang is the performance winner here, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better bang for the buck anywhere.
I didn’t seriously cross-shop since we were set on a Civic and ordered one that was arriving in Oct/Nov. But I happened to see the GR online at Autonation and made a call to see how long the wait time was… they had this one on the lot and it was available at MSRP. Pulled out the cc, dropped a down payment and went to pick it up the next morning. An impulse buy for sure.
Isn’t this crazy? Buying a car at sticker and considering that a good deal? The world needs to get back to normal soon…!
How's the insurance for a 19-yr old with a sports car though? And yeah, sticker = good deal these days.
Not too bad... went up $55 per month. Downright cheap if you consider that we paid ~$2,600 every 6 months before adding the GR. That's Mom, Dad, daughter (23) and son (19) with just 2 cars, '18 GS and '17 Civic. Too much car theft and too many bad drivers in So FL. SMH (again)

Damn that's a lot.
Mine is $1400 every 6 months for 3 drivers and 3 cars but no teenagers though. 2019 GS + 2021 ES + 2015 Prius.

Actually about $6K a year is not bad. I had a boss who spent $11K a year for his fam of 4 and a coworker who paid almost $8K for his fam of 4. It's expensive but what can I do... other than move to another state?
Replaced battery. Went to go to dinner and just clicking. Original from when I purchased car new in 12/2016. It had been slower to start for sometime and I don't drive much during the week so I knew I was on borrowed time.

I am paying $3146 for 6 months for 4 cars, 2017 GS , 2014 IS, 2013 Elantra (daughter 18), 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 (son 20). When they were first added it was about $2100 for 6 months but been slowly going up even with Good Student discount. And the $3146 is if I pay in full is I were to pay monthly it would be 4k

I got you beat... $4,246 for 6 months back in 2021, 4 of us, 3 cars, 02 Sequioa, 18 GS 350, 17 Civic hatch. I almost cancelled my own driver's license and bought a scooter. Sold the Sequoia. My daughter also had an accident on her record from 2018, when her bumper scraped an X3 rim while going into a parking spot. Premiums dropped significantly in 2022, so I assume that accidents within the last 3 years impact insurance premiuims, at least with Geico and Progressive.
And I changed the location of the GR from Wellington to Orlando (UCF) and the premiums dropped! @TarmacSL3 Maybe something you can try.
@bclexus Maybe I should join you guys in Texas... I might be able to save some cha-ching $$$.

Hmm very interesting... I will call progressive and see what they say with the Elantra...we head up to UCF on the 20th to move my daughter in. (Towers)

I just moved my son out of Tower 4, nice building but they took too long to re-approve him for the new school year so he got cold feet and headed across Alafaya to the Plaza. He moves in on the 20th as well. Your daughter's going to really like the Towers!
BTW... Waxed up the GR today... it's not USB but it's prtty damn nice!
I'm also with Progressive and when I added the GR86 to my policy online, I had the car garaged at home, so switched it to 32817 in ORL and the premium went down some $15-20 month I believe.
