No, I got it! I made sure I got all the deals available. Just a hair under $1600 OTD without warranty from America's Tire (Discount Tire). Warranty is another $200+ and I have time to think about this first. My stock tires didn't come with a warranty anyway.

With all that you’ve been through these recent weeks…. GET THE WARRANTY!

Well the majority of that is from the dealer tech that just ripped stuff apart and didn't know how to put it back properly. I learned my lesson the real hard way. Never again! lol

Oh, I saw his new tires alright. But those missing little valve stem caps stood out like a a pretty girl with a black eye

This month will be 4 years with the GS. 35,880 miles, and I've never touched the brakes. Decided to pull the Akebonos out of staorage and slap them on. Thought I had a shim kit as well but could not find it so used the shims that came with the pads, and a small amount of brake grease. When I was done, I decided to change the oil as well... it's been a little over 7K miles. Also removed the fumoto oil drain valve and installed the Valvomax drain valve.

Old Pads... barely there after 36K miles.

Old Pads

New Pads

Rotors appear to still be in good shape.

You got all you could out of those pads! Akebono is good stuff. The backing they come with should be all you need. No noise right?

I'm curious about the noise too.
When I put Akeebono on after about a month the noise was screeching was unbearable.
I had to revert back to all OEM and it went away.

Go figure.

Akebono's installed correctly, brakes cleaned and lubed correctly will not make any noise. It was your install.

Chin, what's going on with the caliper decals there? Seems like there's another clear layer on top? I want that, it looks nice, like molded and painted.

Just came back from a couple of errand runs, drove about 40 miles, stopped at 2 stores and a KFC... no noise. I even forgot I had new brakes until I got to the drivethru, I lowered the music volume to listen for screeching, thankfully there was none... whew!
And I only used the brake lube very sparingly, applied to the back of the shim, the retainer pin and bracket. I hope the quiet lasts.

It's been a few years since I did these decals so I don't really remember all the details, but I think I cleaned the rotor surface with rubbing alcohol, applied the decal and sprayed the black area only with 2-3 of coats of clear. It was a nice, easy and satisfying project, go do it!

Edit: @ItzFilyO Just checked your pics and you've got decals on as well. The "molded" look is probably just from the angle I took the pic. I did nothing special.

I think the clear coat spray makes it look like it's one piece with the caliper from an angle. I think we have the same decals, it's just that mine isn't clear coated.

I just wish the stock wheel spokes are thinner so we can see the calipers more.

chinee those caliper do look nice. Sounds like you installed those pads correctly done. So what are your thoughts on the Akebono pads stopping?
