Default Needs some help GS350 Fsport vs Mercedes E350 Sport

Well, I was all set on the Fsport until I checked out the E350. I'm looking at buying a CPO 2014 and each vehicle is priced similarly but with the E350 with less miles.

Any help would be appreciated. I know there will Lexus bias but would like some honest opinions between these 2. Looking to drive either for the long haul (over 10 years) and was shocked when I heard the E class has excellent reliability since I always assumed european cars were terrible in that department.

Thanks for your help

That's easy bud if you want a car that will spend more time on the road then get a GS. If you want a car that will spen more time in the shop then get a Mercedes. This is coming from a guy who had German cars.

That generation E Class IMHO feels very dated inside compared to the GS. I considered one new before I got my GS in 2012. It has a more "big sedan" drive, so more similar to my LS than my GS, whether you like that or not depends on you. If you want a sporty/dynamic car then the GS for sure.

IMHO the GS wins on the interior alone. Now, the all new current gen E Class is another matter, on that the big sticking point for me would be the 4cyl engine.

When it comes time to trade in the Mercedes you will wish you bought the Lexus. I have had 3 Mercedes E350s and every one cost me money at trade-in. I have never had a Lexus do that they hold value way better. When we bought the GS we drove the equivalent car from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes and ended up with the Lexus.

Parts also cost a lot more for Mercedes, and sometimes things are difficult to access to fix so repairs cost more.

Support your local Mercedes mechanic and get the E350.

Or get a GS and get out and enjoy driving somewhere other than the mechanic & back.

The whole "unreliable" thing with Mercedes is overstated. I know plenty of people with late model Mercedes and none have had issues.

My uncle has E350 2008 with all kinda sensor warnings popping up. They are a lot better compared to Bmw though , I'm in the process of changing my wife's Lexus IS250 and I'm not sure if I want to buy a c300/328 or just get a new IS250. Lexus has been a smooth ride for all these years.

And to the contrary, I have friends who will never by a Mercedes again. Look at the Annual Consumer Report Auto Issue and look at the vehicle dashboards on reported issues. Sure, in the first 2 or 3 years the Mercedes does fine but once you hit 4 years and longer, there charts start showing many more issues(as with BMW, Audi), especially electronics.

The moral of the story, Mercedes is fine if you are keeping it for the first 3 years but anything longer and it will cost you an arm and a leg.

I had a BMW 3 series and I will admit they are super fun to drive. Tight steering, tight suspension and good looks. But when I tell you it was a love hate relationship....man! Every month I had a car note and a repair note. That's how it felt. Always some sensor flashing up on the dash. All those plastic engine parts. All that headache. Go with the GS.
