I stocked up on a few of these and they work pretty well. It tackles where mold/mildew usually grows: the evaporator. Spraying disinfectant into the vents will mask the smell, but it won't actually reach the problem. If your car is newer, I recommend using it once a year to help prevent build-ups.

On my older cars, I actually have to get to the evaporator to manually scrub the fins and coils. This is a huge pain in the butt so keep it clean while you still can.
