Mid pipe
Does anybody know what is the different between straight pipe and mid pipe if there is no different why would anybody spend over $500 on a mid pipe if a local muffler shop can just install a straight pipe

Straight pipe means they are going to cut your pipes and weld on straight pipes. In my opinion....straight pipe is a cheaper route. And like anything in life you get what you pay for (sound quality). GS is about a $50,000 car why be cheap

Mid pipe is the section of pipe from the cats to the mufflers, implying you are keeping mufflers. When you get an aftermarket "cat back" exhaust, it likely comes with a mid pipe to adjoin the cat to the upgraded muffler.

I have the Invidia Q300 with midpipe. If I drive it normally it's as quiet as stock. However, if I get on throtte it's quite loud. Loud enough it drowns out the sound generator.

The main cat is in the exhaust header, the secondary cat is in the exhaust line just ahead of the muffler but beyond the oxygen sensor. Here in Texas they only check the OBDIi to ensure all sensors are working correctly. You could most likely run straight pipe as the midpipe but my bet you would have a major drone sound at speed. The resonator (takes the place of the secondary cat) on the Invidia midpipe greatly reduces the drone sound.
