Engine whine

I'm having the same issue with my car. I've taken it to 2 different dealers and both said "this sound is within spec" which is BS. I often have to park in a parking garage and I'm so embarrassed because the sound echos and I can hear it inside the car with the windows up. Hopefully you can find a dealer willing to resolve it.

Hey guys , I am having the same problem with my gs350 awd. I took it to dealer since I started to hear this kind of noise which is unusual . But the dealer said there is no problem and our cars make this kind of noise and they didn't do anything about it. They advised me to leave the car for a whole day or so if I wanted full diagnosis. It is obvious that there is noise i cant believe dealers are ignoring this issue. I would love to see any of you can solve this issue!!!

I took my car to the dealer twice for this issue. They told me that the sound was normal harmonic from drivetrain area. They also compared vehicle to vehicle and told me that other GS made the same noise.

Could be a idle pulley/bearings are bad, does it make any difference when the AC is on or off?
You can buy a cheap auto stethoscope and try to pinpoint further where the noise is coming from.
I remember a friend had a issue where it was actually his speakers making the whining noise whenever he accelerated, it was like the speakers were enhancing whatever issue there was with the alternator or engine..

That's what I did when my sunroof was loose - they said "it's the same on all cars" and I said "prove it - pull up that car" - pointed to one, and looked at it right then. End of discussion. They fixed it

It wasn't that it failed it was putting too much pressure on the chain causing the whining.
As far as the engine noise , it's very difficult to pin down as the sound is transmitted not only through the belt but through the
Metal in the engine. I can't begin to tell you how many alternators I've sold over the years because of noise only to have it returned
Because the car had a bad water pump or idler pulley.

When my windows are down and there are no cars around, I can hear a slight whine as I accelerate from a complete stop. Glad to see a few ideas here around the alternator and timing chain tensioner. I'll have them take a look next time I go in and see where it goes.
