Did a thing today, I made a wireless charger for the Lexus GS 350.

Just grab one of the wireless Qi charging PCBAs from amazon.



Then just secure it to the underside of the armrest caddy.



You will want to test the coil positioning before you permanently mount it.
The three-coil PCBA from amazon gives a wide enough coverage area where this works pretty well in caddy.

Nice and convenient. Just drop the phone in armrest and you're all set!

would be awesome to somehow integrate that into the cup holders so you don't have to keep opening and closing the armrest. But i am an iphone user so wireless charging is a pipe dream for me.

Integrating the wireless charger into other spaces could be neat. I think the main challenge would be getting 5V signal to it. How would you wire it?

Got the wireless PCB kit but I ran into a huge problem. My Galaxy S8+ phone is gigantic and doesn't fit into the caddy. I need to find somewhere else to mount this or get a larger caddy.

so i actually tried this a couple weeks back. i was going to install the wireless charger under the cup holder cover, turns out the fake carbon fiber cover has some metal in it and wont let the wireless charging work.. had to scrap the idea, and then thought of the same location you did, but i have the S8+ and wont fit there.....

I prototyped this out and so far it works great. I used the box that my phone case came in as a holder. Fits in the center console nice and snug so I don't have to worry about the phone moving out of charging range even with aggressive driving. #RedneckEngineering

I just bought the iphone 8 which now has wireless charging so figured i'd revive this thread. Will attempt this mod but need a place to lay the phone.

I disagree. If you look at the NX forum, many complaints of how slow the charge is on the OEM qi charger, how limited the space is for phones, and how hot the phone gets after a few minutes.
