All I’m saying is if Lexus is making the 2019 ES the GS replacement why aren’t they calling it a midsize luxury car? Why name it a entry level sedan in all their press kits and power point presentations.
It's an entry level because of the LS. If you want a luxury sedan, you will have to buy an LS now. LS used to be a flagship sedan, but not anymore. It is no longer a direct competitor to the S-Class like it used to be. The S-Class wipes floors with 7 series and the new LS combined.

Now what makes more sense is for them to throw every technology and performance feature at the GS and wrap it in sexiest sheet metal we’ve ever seen come out of Japan and basically reinvent the meaning of midsize luxury car for brand.

Lexus wanted to drop the GS back in 2010, when the 3GS failed. Even though the 3GS had much better sales numbers. Mr.Toyoda's interference stopped Lexus from killing this model back in 2010. He wanted to give this model another chance, and Lexus delivered. The 4GS was the best in handling department, but lack of engine choices and lack of advertising by Lexus, completely destroyed an already fragile image of this model. The fact that Lexus has finally decided to kill the GS, is no surprise.

We can bark about our favorite cars being phased out all we want, but we all know there's a powerful force working towards eliminating any fuel based vehicles altogether.

Remember the lyrics to Red Barchetta? The song ends with "we have assumed control." That's what it's all about control. The GS will eventually go away to make way for a 15 passenger Prius, but more likely a battery powered bicycle. Only then will there be utopia on earth.

utopia (yo͞o-tōˈpē-ə)

  • n. An ideally perfect place, especially in its social, political, and moral aspects.
  • n. A work of fiction describing a utopia.
  • n. An impractical, idealistic scheme for social and political reform.
From The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 4th Edition

The GS will be assimilated. Resistance is futile!

I just searched every dealer around me and all have at least 3. All are F-Sports. Not dead yet. The 19s will be out soon, so probably why the dealers around you are holding off.

Whether they kill it or not, enjoy the car you have. Not the end of the world.

Toyota is making a huge mistake. Ive said it before- they just released the new Crown over in Japan which shares the same platform as the GS. They would be extremely foolish to not spend the extra bucks to reskin, and market a new GS. BTW, the new crown is a sharp looking vehicle in person and i'd kill to have one in the US. They are discontinuing the 2GR-FSE/FKS and instead going w/ the 2.0t 8AR-FTS, 2.5 4cyl hybrid, and a 3.5L Hybrid V6

Wonder if they used James May's personal LaFerrari to record that episode of The Grand Tour where that exact matchup was comprised?

not sure where this came from but i'll roll with. It can't be James May's car, if it is it must sit in his museum cause the dude drives like a snail. I'm more surprised how clarkson has a boner for the LFA and likes the GSF. they can't possible kill the GS if one form has the dude's approval lol

That's just Japan. If there is a 5GS here, it will undoubtedly offer a V6.

I wouldn’t put it passed them with their 200t offering.

I have zero doubt. It's not like they discontinued the V6 when they added the current turbo model. I suspect a 5GS would offer the choice of a turbo 4 or a turbo 6.
