Uh-ho, there has been a decline in total sales of the LC500. I wonder if Lexus realized how many few LC500 they would sell?
2019 Lexus LC500 Sales 1,219
2018 Lexus LC500 Sales 1,979
2017 Lexus LC500 Sales 2,484

Your thread title is highly misleading. "Officially" would indicate that Lexus has actually released an official statement on the future of the GS, which they have yet to do. This is just more of the same speculation we've seen time and time again.
I'm with @JDR76 . What Toyota does with the Camry, Avalon & ES is completely unrelated to the GS.

Until Lexus makes an official announcement it is only an opinionated guess what happens with the GS.

Pretty sick of seeing these speculation threads time and time again. You could have posted in one of the other “is Lexus discontinuing the GS” threads that already existed. Also putting “officially” in the title is very misleading, there’s nothing official at all about your speculation.

Just remember, it doesn't matter how many they sell in the US. Australia is bankrolling the LC, they're 142000 USD here!
I don't think the AWD Camry means anything because you're already getting the ES 'Fsport'. How excitement.....There is just no financial reason for Lexus making the GS, the ES is twenty grand cheaper and selling well, they make all their money making leathered up Toyota SUVs.

The GS is a great car but unless a major major redo it has seen its last days. Lexus only sold 3,378 GS's in 2019 which was down -49% from 2018. Doubt they will keep a production line open for 3,378 cars a year with sales numbers cut in half. To your point the ES sales are up 6% from 2019 to 2018. The ES is the second most popular selling luxury sedan. With the F Sport and rumors of awd in 2021, the GS looks like history.
I had a ES300H as a loaner last week and I honestly hated it. I just could not get comfortable in it (I have a bad back) and the ergonomics kinda sucked. All I could think about was how I couldn't wait to get out of this car and back into mine.
Although to be fair, I did have a ES350 Fsport loaner a while back and it wasn't too bad.

I would be intrigued by an AWD ES, though it will *not* compare to my AWD GS for sure.
I had a 2016 ES and the last day I had it I drove 30 miles to pick up my GS. Back hurt after that drive, and totally went away when I drove the returned 30 miles in the GS... That was enough for me.
That said, the redesign on the ES is surely more comfortable, so *IF* the GS dies, I might consider an ES. Or I'd just get a used 2020 GS and re-evaluate in 2026 or so, lol

My thinking is the only way to get AWD in a Lexus sedan today is either the GS or LS and with the new Avalon who shares the platform with the ES also getting AWD soon albeit a FWD biased version, those potential shoppers seeking a Lexus luxury sedan with an AWD option why would a GS make any sense at this point outside us few enthusiasts once the ES comes with AWD? I guess the bigger question does the GS still makes sense to keep at this point?
How many potential ES buyers are really just choosing the GS because of AWD availability? Hardly any. FWD already provides most of the traction, adding RWD does not make a FWD car that much better in the snow. If someone really wants something better in the snow then a FWD car they will likely be looking toward a truck based SUV then a GS, they are really better off just investing in a decent set of snow tires then paying a 10K+ premium to get a GS with AWD.
People choose a GS because it is RWD based, it is better built, higher quality, drives much better, handles much better, looks much better, has more options/features, legitimate competitor to a E class or 5 series, not just because it offers AWD.
What Toyota does with the ES/Camry/Avalon with AWD will have no impact on GS sales or perception.

You should really change the title of this thread which is pretty much the same as half a dozen other speculation threads, it is very misleading.

In 2018 BMW sold almost 44K 5 series.
http://carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales.../bmw-5-series/
In the same year the GS sold 6.6K
http://carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales...exus/lexus-gs/
And the E series sold 45K

Between those 3 cars only 6% of people go with the GS.

Where's dude who was "in the know" about production timelines that said he had already seen the 5th Gen as well as the 6th Gen GS in the parts pipeline??
