Lexus is indeed discontinuing the gs. I received this news from my Lexus service rep in ATL. They (dealers) don't yet what the replacement will be, but expect to go upscale closer to the LS perhaps.

That's a downscale when going from a GS350. The LS is a heavy *** car, I know because I've floored both my 2015 GS350 V6 and 2015 LS460 V8 (both AWD) and the V8 feels like its there to compensate for all extra weight. Will probably go from the GS350 to another car like GSF, RCF, etc.

The new GA-L platform is lighter than the existing LS platform though and the new LS is lighter than the outgoing LS.

I'm sure the GS replacement will be lighter or as light as the current 4GS.

I don't have any problems with the new LS, it's a beautiful car, has everything I would ever want... except for the fact that I'd have to lay out like 85K+ to get it, which is just a tad untenable.

In a perfect world, the GS will remain an F car and they'll release a new GS F with AWD and some other updates, and possibly maybe, with sugar on top, put in some better seats. (I really like even the current the GSF and the RCF, but those seats are are just embarrassingly mediocre compared to the seats in my GS350... not sure why they took a step backwards there.... I realize they wanted them to look sporty, but they took out half the adjustments. )

I never got that sensation, the GS350's I tested felt sluggish and like it was only making maybe 270hp while the LS460 felt more powerful, smoother, and more satisfying, maybe not 380hp but still more satisfying power wise then the GS350. Maybe it was because you were driving a AWD LS460 which is down on power and weighs more then the RWD LS460.

A service rep would not know the insider plans at Toyota/Lexus. Toyota is being pretty tight lipped about the GS cancellation in the US and some other markets so it is still all speculation at this point. They may simply have a year between models where there is not a new GS model like they did with the 3rd Gen to 4th and dealerships are mistaking this for it being permanently cancelled. There is no way the new ES is going to take the place of a GS nor can it compete with a 5 series or GS, Lexus needs a competitor in that segment, the new LS is not exactly flying off the lots either.

It's interesting to note that the Lexus web site has the 2019 GS F on it and yet the 2018 GS300/350 remains. I'm not entirely convinced that the only 2019 GS available will be the GS F.

I read from a reputable person on another site just confirmed the GS for the NA market will go on one more MY for 2019. That's it.

MY 20 and 21 will only have the GS-F variant for sale. No 350. And for MY 22 an all new 4-door coupe *may* come out. It will sort of replace the GS in terms of marketing. But the actual GS including the name plate, as many have suspected, is axed.

I see that too. Good info. A 2019 model will work for me. My '15 GS lease is going to be ending next spring, so even though I'm not crazy about certain aspects of the 16+ refresh, I'll probably just get a '19 and hope that it gets me through to the next GS (or whatever it will be called) in the '22 time frame.

What website or forum is this reputable info about the discontinuation of the GS coming from?

Lexus Enthusiast. The posts are coming from Carmaker1, a known reputable source.

From an article posted ~12 minutes ago as of this post, the GS isn't going anywhere?

This backs up the post from Carmaker1 that the GS will be available as a 2019 model, but still leaves the longer term future in the dark.

I don't think anybody knows what Lexus is going to do 4 or 5 years from now.

I don't think Lexus knows what they're going to do in 2 years, let alone 4 or 5. Good news though...saw that same article posted on Twitter this morning.
