Default Cracked windshield repairable?

A rock hit my windshield as I was driving on the highway. It started as a crack about an inch long. The next morning, after parked in my garage, the crack is now about a foot long. Is this repairable or is my only option to replace the windshield?

It's not repairable. It'll just increase in length. Time for a new windshield. Make sure you get a Lexus branded OE windshield...

Should fall under comprehensive coverage.

I've had two Safelite windshields, $500-650 each. They come to you, install in an hour, no complaints. They have all the right tools. I watched the one guy do it and take pictures, was fantastic.

More complaints than praise about Safelite's glass and workmanship from Lexus owners.

Better to replace it to avoid long term headaches down the road.

Cousin has his windshield replaced on his gs and safelite broke many clips and didn't replace it but glued it back on. My cousin found out too late and couldn't do anything about it. I would avoid safelite if possible.

Go through your insurance company and let the Lexus dealer install it for you, will cost 1200 plus depending on the options available on your car. Dealer puts new trim pieces around the windshield area which doesn't fit well once they have been taken off.

Default Safelite

I have been very disappointed by Safelite workmanship. Would not recommend.

If you're leasing, you can probably go with safelite. If you finance or own, you might want to go OEM. Co-worker recently had safelite do the work but only because he was leasing his car and giving it back soon. He said sometimes the safelite glass isn't as "clear" or appears with a slight haze or glaze in certain angles and conditions (nothing crazy but he wouldn't do it if he owned the car).

Safelight sucks.

Terrible nickle-sized chip repair. Spidered almost immediately.

Overly long to get a replacement. Ordered wrong one, ordered right one, arrived broken. Got it right and installed ok after that.

If insurance had let me use Lexus I might have just gone that route.

I wouldn't recommend Safelite to my worst enemy. Bite the bullet and buy ONLY Lexus OEM glass. Safelite claims theirs is OEM but it is not. They claim the specs are the same but they are not. They caused several hundred dollars in damage to my Lexus when they dripped the sealant/glue on my dashboard wood. They also cut my headliner up with a razor blade doing the installation. Let the buyer beware.
