Question front shock blown at 31k?

today I was driving and kept hearing a sound when going over bumps, took into a local trusted shop and they showed the front passenger shock that was leaking and said the shock is blown and both fronts need to be changed.

is this normal? never had one go out so early on me?

also I know it under warranty but the car is dropped on Tanabe NF210's currently. are there any local dealers that will cover the warranty without issue? or do I need to go back to stock?

you need to go back to stock or else they will blame it on ur aftermarket spring

Yup, pretty sure that they will deny any warranty work if you take in with the Tanabe springs.

Get it back to stock and goto the dealer while pretending you donno wat has happened Cas there will be some marks that will tell the Lexus technician that the suspension was modified.

I would just get aftermarket replacements. No need to scam the dealership

What kind of sound were you hearing when going over bumps?

Likely due to the lowering springs and Lexus will not cover under warranty because of it. I'm personally on the side of not trying to pull a fast one on the dealer. Own up and buy new shocks

My front shock leaked when under 25K miles. My car is stock and never lowered. The tech said it is rare but does happen. They replaced it without issue. But again, I did not have modified suspension.

As soon as they see that the nuts and bolts have been touched and its not logged in Lexus database, they will decline.

Either go aftermarket or buy OEM online and have a local shop install it. I had Toyota install my new ones after my shocks got messed up from lowering it.

Maybe I'm not searching correctly, but I don't see much aftermarket options for shocks/struts for the 4GS. Even KYB doesn't have anything and i've sworn by KYBs over the last decade. I imagine this is because of the AVS / Sport+ mode in the F-Sport/Lux package versions...?

My F-Sport blew a front shock at 13,000 miles, replaced under warranty.

I don't think anyone makes aftermarket struts for the 4GS. OEM struts are pretty pricey so people often go coils after they fail.

There is this option from KYB:
https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/...IEEp6O3Lqx6LOA

But they come with their own springs.
