I have a 2002 GS300 with 255,000 miles and she still runs strong as my commuter car My 2014 GS350 is my baby and I love the GS line after previously owning an ES. IF and big IF the GS goes away I'd only consider an RCF....otherwise I'll be looking at the BMW M4
If 5GS rear drive gets axed for unattractive short wheelbase front drive based 7ES, then I might have to say good bye to Lexus, and move to a Genesis G80.
In any case, if the 5GS has daggy six side window styling like the forthcoming Toyota Crown, then I will move to Genesis G80 also.
It is a terrible time for President Akio to show his bad tastes in styling when the Koreans are making huge inroads by directly employing European stylists like Peter Schreyer...
Don't get sucked into believing the GS is going away. Is that article from Lexus directly?? No it's not.
A while back, I'm guessing last winter or so, a Lexus Executive was quoted as saying they are going to reduce the number of car models and increase the number of SUVs. I certainly don't claim to know what that means, but I read it and they named the person who said it. Sadly I don't have the memory for the specifics.
Really like my '15 GS350. It's the best vehicle I've ever driven and owned by leaps and bounds. I'm inclined to think that this model is being axed. On Carsdirect, you can see that virtually no options or packages are being offered for the current offering. It's safe to conclude that it's winding down.
When time comes for a replacement, it'll be a 5 series BMW .
I like the new BMW 540i. I'll just have to budget for extra maintenance it'll require.
Not to crazy about the new LS500. It's too hyper aerodynamic . I stiil prefer the current LS460. I like the conventional shape of a sedan. I thought of the GS as the perfect sedan. The shape, size, design, interior, power. Everything about it.
I REALLY like the IS350, but it's too small. Maybe they'll stretch it a bit when the GS goes kaput.
As far as I'm concerned the ES is just a rebadged camry/Avalon and front drive. When I think luxury vehicle, it has to be rear wheel drive and all that goes with it. The center hump and the more dynamic driving experience.
The vibration when one if the balance weight flies off the driveshaft.
The problem with Lexus is PRICE. Too expensive. Most car buyers who are willing to spend 50 to 60 large for a sedan, most of these people will spend their money on the car made in Lickenziedicken.
I heard read one time, people who buy Porsche 911's don't know or care what a corvette is.
Even though Lexus is a better quality and more reliable vehicle. Most buyers won't care because they're going with an established brand that's been around since or before WW2.
Only way to lure these buyers is to price your vehicle lower than the other guy. At some point you need to start thinking volume. Some people argue brand dilution. And the alternative is?
A fully decked out GS350 should be no more than $51K. Not $65K.
At some point I'll have to make the switcheroo. I'm not gonna like it. Going to a less reliable, less dependable is gonna be a hard pill to swallow. But swallow we will. I'll drive it with my fingers crossed. I'm gonna start psyching myself out now and learn to like the BMW 540i.
Maybe I'll go test drive one this weekend.
I was at my dealer yesterday and the manager told me the GS isn't going anywhere. He said future plan is to make a V6 twin turbo option to fill the void between the base model and the GSF. I'm hoping this is true. Figured I would share
Leave it to a NJ sales mgr. He must know a source too! I heard they're considering the HellCat motor for the 19 GS. I heard that from a guy that sells cars at a "Buy Here Pay Here" lot that's been selling cars for a long time. So he would have to know!
I plan to keep my 2014 for long time (bought it last fall). I would like to move into a used GSF at some point though - maybe pick up a 2018 model in 21 or 22 depending on price

i want a gsf to, but i dont think i can justify buying essentially the same car with a better motor.. I'd probably want a truck or a sports coupe with a v8
